I’m wondering what popular music I’m missing out on. I find most of my music w/ Spotify Discover Weekly. It never feeds me extremely popular stuff because it assumes I’ll already know it, is my guess. But I don’t know all of it! Most of my stuff is from before I was born.

I just found Here’s Where the Story Ends by the Sundays (111M streams) thru YouTube. It’s totally up my alley. So what other stuff like that is out there that I’ve missed? I’d heard a few songs of theirs before, so not totally unknown. Somehow missed their biggest hit though.

@dlondonwortel I am convinced that a major unlock for this will be the inevitable consolidation of subway systems. if the subway map showed all connections to NJ it would redefine how people view “the city”

Urban NJ is to NYC what Brooklyn was to conventional Manhattanites in the 1960s - hopelessly gauche and largely unknown (except for token enclaves in Hudson county).
You wouldn’t cross the bridge into Brooklyn then - you do now.

yea when I was a teenager in those years I used to go to the library and read stacks of magazines- the articles in Esquire and GQ etc then were phenomenally well-written and I admired those writers so much. Tom Chiarella and Adam Gopnik were my favs

Hit the grocery store twice a day every day, your fridge is ~empty save for leftovers and ingredients from the last 2-3 meals

@savage_acro For the old folks, Riverdale was definitely a status symbol. But the marker of status has changed from leisure/quiet to where the creative class is.
FWIW, Forest Hills/Kew Gardens is my dream place. Forest Park, Dani's pizza, perfectly urban/suburban.

Riverdale/Forest Hills/Kew Gardens etc. tell us something. You get the amenity, commute time and school quality of Park Slope, but without the status marker—your neighbors are dentists rather than creatives. And so they’re 30% cheaper.
