I really don’t understand how our law thinks that the age of a car determines its engine health. A car passes emissions tests in countries that care more about emission than Uganda does and I am told to pay environmental levy for it based on its age? Do we have some scientists in parliament that make our taxation’s laws? Who makes such proposals that make a mockery of university education? Emissions are tested! If you really care about emissions then test that car. So when I pay environmental levy the car stops polluting or what?

@adam_kungu At a later date, ask why start with vaccines that are provided free of charge using funds from global, WHO and gates foundation instead of starting with the biological that are highly needed and expensive to the community. Hopefully its not a mere packaging unit.

I visited Dei Pharma, a large pharmaceutical and biotech facility located in Matugga along Kampala-Gulu highway. Pleased to learn that the facility sitting on 250 acres intends to produce essential drugs, vaccines, and advanced biological treatments locally, something that will save the country from dependency on imported drugs. #Uganda currently imports more than 85 percent of its medicines. The company is starting with vaccine production, targeting diseases that have long defined public health priorities in Africa. These include polio, measles, tuberculosis, and other immunizable conditions historically referred to as the six killer diseases. In particular, I am excited to learn that the 1.1 billion dollar facility, plans to manufacture affordable treatments for sickle cell disease, cancers, and other conditions that affect us and yet remain largely untreated due to cost barriers. For example, the gene therapies which are currently available in developed countries that cost millions of dollars per dose, placing them far beyond the reach of most patients here. The facility has also established, in Namasagali, a 600-acre cassava processing plant that produces pharmaceutical-grade starch, glucose, maltose, and fructose, all of which are critical inputs in drug and vaccine manufacturing.
