Hey Jon (cool to see your reply here). Indexing was taking hours, without making much progress. That plus needing to have multi-part search form with various inputs, was easier to build as custom query to capture URL parameters and build meta query that way. Would love to chat more about it though, there's likely room for improvement that was outside my current skillset

Pushing the limits of SearchWP today to try and wrap up a custom search function on this Golfing site (hole in one directory). With over 30,000 posts indexed, with numerous custom fields -- it's been a bit challenging to get a robust and multi-part search form working.

@ezsmith397 @JiveDig Hours hurts, I would definitely see that in some cases. So much depends not only on the number of posts, but also the content itself e.g. how much and how unique each word is, in fact. My mind always said it should scale further, but I also knew it was doing a lot 😅

@ezsmith397 @JiveDig Curious: what ended up being the deciding factor against? I have to imagine 30k posts took.. somewhere around ~30min to index. Was it that latency, or were the search queries slow/inaccurate? 20k entries was always the soft limit in my head over the years, then suggest Elastic 👍

@JiveDig Yeah I looked into it a bit today. Regular queries ended up working well though

@JiveDig @deviorobert Great minds think alike! Check out statamic.com and github.com/statamic/cms which is a long time Laravel package that _is_ a CMS, pretty great!

@deviorobert I'm not super familiar with Laravel but I wonder if there's an opportunity to make it more CMS'y instead of being so app focused, via a first party, supported layer/package/whatever they call it.

Now really may be the best (and only?) time to fork WordPress, remove all the legacy backward compatibility code, modernize and make it more Laravel-esque, and get a decent amount of immediate backing from frustrated community members. This is the future I want.

@jchristopher I went the other way. Run at 200% to get the best looking fonts. Then lower the font sizes. Run 80% in chrome, 10pt in terminal, 12pt in code with cascadia. Amd liberally use Full-screen F11. Works rather nice!

Super impressed with how well the Framework 13 runs under Linux! I didn't see a big difference when testing WSL vs Linux on the 14900K Intel, but with this AMD 7840U, there's a large advantage. +25% on Speedometer 3 and +25% on my HEY test suite run!

@dhh I'm in the midst of a (forced) trial of my Framework 13 & one thing I very much struggled with was the resolution in Gnome (everything too small at 100% scale, everything too huge at 200%) & had to jump through hoops a bit but got things working nicely w/ jonchristopher.us/blog/linux-jou…

Between the lovely keyboard, the nice matte screen, and this kind of performance under Linux, as well as all the repairability, I think it's a bargain at ~$1400. Best PC laptop I've tried so far. frame.work/products/lapto…

@sabbatical I snagged a frame.work which is the best of other machines I've tried (last one was a ThinkPad) and have fiddled around with many distros, but Debian is my style because my main goal is stability. Wrote a bit recently jonchristopher.us/blog/ive-been-… and hope to write more 👍

I am neck deep in a full-on full time forced trial of Linux for reasons like this and many more and not Windows because literally everything else we touch as developers is run by Microsoft
