Hedgehog Cabin
Hedgehog Cabin@HedgehogCabin·
Every phone call I've taken this week has broken my heart a little bit more. So much unnecessary suffering. Please spread this information, as far and wide as you can. You may save a life. 🙏 A hedgehog *out in the open* in the day is in serious trouble and needs urgent help. Always. No exceptions. Any size. Any time. Hedgehogs are nocturnal prey animals, they have no defences in the daytime, it's deadly dangerous for them. They are designed to hunt at night, to navigate and catch insects in the dark, occupying a specific ecological niche. They are not adapted to withstand high temperatures, and their shape means they rapidly dehydrate during daylight hours. They are nocturnal animals. So they don't come out in the day simply because they're hungry, or lost, or disturbed, or to move nests, or are pregnant, or for any other trivial reason. They come out in the day because it's warmer than the night and they are feeling cold. Deadly cold. They're feeling cold because they're so sick they're starting to die, and hypothermia is a stage of dying. Blood has been redirected to the vital organs, keeping them alive as long as possible, leaving the limbs feeling cold. If you see a hedgehog like this, out in the open, in the day time, no matter how 'well' he looks, it is an emergency. Every minute counts. DO NOT put them in a box and keep them, feeding them, not calling a rescue for advice for 3 days until their agony and infection is too much for them to bear and they stop moving. DO NOT feed them then move them under a bush because you think they shouldn't be in the sun, leaving them, utterly defenceless, to be predated alive there. DO NOT take them to a vet, none of whom are trained in wildlife and will simply put to sleep even viable wild animals. Please take them to a rescue (never a vet) URGENTLY. Just Google 'hedgehog rescue near me' to find a list. More info: x.com/HedgehogCabin/…

@procurementfile There aren’t enough characters in a post to go into details. You think the LA just accept names sent in?! Parent has to apply via government website & get a code. That code is checked against parent & child details. Yes there COULD be some unscrupulous people working the system

@procurementfile I was a nursery manager for 26 yrs. Every term we had to do a ‘headcount’ to claim funding from the local authority. We had to enter child’s name, DOB, address, number of hrs per week & weeks per term. It would be very difficult to claim for non existent places.

Barnet Council paid £31million to nurseries in ‘24/5.* According to Ofsted, a number of these nurseries are registered as ‘Closed’. This needs clarification; were any payments made after they had closed? ‘Play and Learn Day Nursery’ was paid £251k over 54 transactions. 🧵1/5

Britain is 110% self-sufficient in lamb. Let that sink in for a moment. Not "pretty good." Not "mostly fine." One hundred and ten percent. We grow more than we eat and export the rest. We have done this on permanent upland pasture that cannot be used for anything else, managed by farmers whose families have worked the same ground for generations, using animals that have been optimised for these conditions over centuries. 85% self-sufficient in beef. 100% in milk. 90% in eggs. The animal products on your plate, if you're eating in Britain, are almost certainly British. The supply chain is: farm, abattoir, butcher or supermarket. Measured in miles. Sometimes in tens of miles. Now. Your January strawberries are from Egypt. Your year-round peppers are from Spain or Morocco. Your salad leaves are from Israel in winter. Your green beans come from Kenya. Your blueberries are from Peru or Chile. They travel by refrigerated air freight, which is roughly fifty times more carbon-intensive per kilogram than road transport, to sit in a plastic clam shell next to a small flag and the word "fresh." The environmental argument against British animal products is not an environmental argument. It is a geography argument made by people who have not checked where their food comes from. Check where your food comes from.

@DrHoenderkamp I respect the Girl Guides for this, but I also respect the Scouts’ decision to admit girls. I tried Girl Guides and didn’t like it, I wish I could have joined Scouts! I volunteer for a Scout Group and it’s wonderful to see boys & girls thriving together 💜

And now I’m here. Strand on the Green, Chiswick, London. A very pleasant place, with beautiful houses, the River Thames and more importantly, three very lovely pubs. I’m tempted to go in to one.

Let me explain what just happened 👇 5 minutes before the President announced a halt to attacks on Iran… someone placed a $1.5 BILLION bet on stocks going up and dumped $192 million in oil. 5 minutes… These trades were 4 to 6 times larger than anything else in the entire market. Whoever did this wasn’t guessing. You don’t risk $1.5 billion on a hunch. There was zero public indication this announcement was coming. No leaks. No press. Nothing. The only people who knew were in the room when the decision was made. Someone in that room picked up a phone. And within minutes they made more money than most Americans will earn in a thousand lifetimes. In a single trade. On a war that cost you $4+ a gallon gas and $16 billion in tax dollars. American citizens funded this war. Politicians are profiting from it. This is not the first time. Every major announcement from this administration has had massive suspicious trades right before it dropped. Tariff reversals. Policy shifts. War decisions. This is the most blatant insider trading operation in the history of American politics. It’s not even close. And it’s happening over and over in broad daylight. You would go to federal prison for trading on a tip from your cousin. These people are front running war decisions with billion dollar bets and nobody will ever ask a single question. Nobody will be investigated. Nobody will be charged. By tomorrow this will be buried under the next satisfying headline. Just like last time. And the time before that. The game is rigged. And they’re not even trying to hide it anymore…

BREAKING: Just five minutes before Trump's announcement to halt the attacks on Iran, massive trades reportedly hit the market. In one move, $1.5 billion in S&P 500 (ES) futures was bought while $192 million in oil (CL) futures was sold. These orders were 4–6x larger than anything else at the time. The trader seemingly made huge gains. Unusual.

I’m on my way back from Astely after speaking with @astleyaction and local residents. Full report tonight 9pm on @GBNEWS This story is far worse than people realise. It is, frankly, appalling. Flooding in houses, sewage overflowing, rats infesting the area, homes shaking, brand new builds ruined. Worst of all, it seems apparent to me, the council have not only tried to silence locals, but are totally uninterested in the issues they’ve indirectly caused. Morally, their local representatives have completely failed them. They could’ve stopped this or at least made the building smaller, as previous plans suggested in consultations, but they didn’t. Soon 24/7/360 HGV’s will be coming and going night and day, it will ruin residents and children’s lives, especially those going to the school these warehouses back on to. There are so many brown sites that could’ve been used, why weren’t they? The injustice done to these poor people needs national attention and I’ll be passing all our evidence to @SteveReedMP. @WiganCouncil have serious questions to answer.

There's a rare kind of beauty in the last light of the Spring sun that meets me as I walk home. Along the lane filled with gold, heralded by blackbirds and daffodils, past the gate that long ago gave up the ghost, and into the weary quiet of the hills. I will always be thankful for it all. 📍 Peak District, England | ©Peaklass, all real, no AI

Check out the ten-year gilt yield this morning - after the UK's likely next Prime Minister tried to lecture international investors about the intricacies of fiscal policy and the UK's national accounts. A subject about which she clearly knows absolutely nothing. Nice one @AngelaRayner !!! Markets now demanding 4.9% per annum to lend money to the British government. In Morocco, it's 3.4%. And get this. In February 2026, the UK government a massive £14.3 billion - according to figures released this morning. No less than £13 billion of that money borrowed last month went on interest payments on existing debt. Think about that for one second - it's utterly insane. The UK's national accounts are now akin to a Ponzi scheme. And yet still, lunatic MPs and potential Prime Ministers call for ever more borrowing and spending - "because it's the right thing to do" Labour's chronic economic illiteracy and internal party-political posturing is driving the UK economy off a cliff ... ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

This story below reveals the true extent of Angela Rayner's cluelessness when it comes to economics, the public finances and financial markets. I say that not with glee - but deep alarm and regret. If this is really how the probable next Prime Minister of the UK thinks - betting markets put a more than 50% chance on leadership coup by June - then the ousting of Starmer/Reeves by Rayner (or Miliband) is likely to spark an instant spike in gilt yields, from their already elevated levels. Just the fact that Rayner has said what she has below will put yet more upward pressure on the market-driven borrowing costs – whatever the Bank of England says is these days mere mood – that drive the interest rates faced by firms and households. I have nothing against more social housing – on the contrary, the arguments in favour of building more are at the heart of my book "Home Truths", along with policy mechanisms that could get that done. But if you think that, in the current environment, hard-nosed international creditors do - or even should - give a monkey's about the "social benefits" of subsidised housing then you are utterly and dangerously deluded. Again, I say this in sorrow, not glee. I knew plenty of smart people at the top of successive Blair governments. The architects of New Labour – at least the Blairites – always made sure there were financially literate and market-savvy people in the room when big decisions were made. That was important back then - when the national debt Britain had to service was 35pc of GDP. Now – with the same metric pushing 100pc of GDP and Britain paying more than Morocco to borrow money – it is absolutely vital. It seems that there is no-one – NO-ONE AT ALL – near the top of today's Labour government who has the first clue about the realities of public accounts and global finance. These are – once again – NOT tribal or party-political points, but statements of cold fact ....
