Yes; it is emergency overnight accommodation. The question is why the vendors are redacted. I see thousands of similar payments from other councils to named hotels/suppliers. What i think is happening is that private landlords have realised they can make much more by letting their properties on a nightly basis vs. long term rents. The end result is that the taxpayer pays more.

Yes. I was just correcting you! Stephen’s website is outstanding and is the most incredible resource for people interested in their council’s spend. I am as excited about his page as you and will help to promote it! I have messaged him today and he has been so helpful in the comments.

@council_spend @GordonDComstock What is even more crazy about this is that Adult Social Care, Children’s Social Care and Housing are all separate categories and total over £450m. So what on earth are the £321m redacted payments for?

@council_spend @GordonDComstock £321m redacted! In just two councils today there is £650m of redacted spend in one year. That is totally insane. Would love to look more closely at that to see what the categories are.

@procurementfile Can you take a look at Doncaster for me please? We have some of the most deprived areas in the UK. Edlington, Denaby, Mexborough, Hexthorpe, Bentley, Balby. I would be so disappointed for any money paid by some of the poorest people in the UK is used inappropriately.

@_frank_james_ I think about things like this all the time! Council tax only covers part of total council spend. Business rates and government grants cover the rest.

@procurementfile All you get for your payment is a couple of bin collections a month lol The whole thing is a scam; if you get a court summons for non payment, the council hires a room in the court and the "judges" all work for the council It's not even a real court

@AlBonDeega The more I see of council tax spend; the hundreds of thousands of redacted payments; the more it frustrates me that council tax rises every year.

@procurementfile How do the people know if this is embezzlement, money laundering or legitimate payments? How does HMRC know lol? Council tax is a scam that I would refuse to pay, if I still lived in the UK

@AlBonDeega Yes exactly! You could possibly argue it’s c*ck- up vs conspiracy and it’s just too onerous for staff to fill in all the details, but councils have a duty to taxpayers to report these payments transparently. Other people are not allowed to just do their job wrong!

@katiegilchrist Thank you! Greenwich has been mentioned to me a few times; and I have had questions about the university. Will certainly add it to my list.
