I taught Claude to talk like a caveman to use 75% less tokens. normal claude: ~180 tokens for a web search task caveman claude: ~45 tokens for the same task "I executed the web search tool" = 8 tokens caveman version: "Tool work" = 2 tokens every single grunt swap saves 6-10 tokens. across a FULL task that's 50-100 tokens saved why does it work? caveman claude doesn't explain itself. it does its task first. gives the result. then stops. no "I'd be happy to help you with that." no "Let me search the web for you" no more unnecessary filler words "result. done. me stop." 50-75% burn reduction with usage limits getting tighter every week this might be the most practical hack out there right now

@SledgeDev It is strange to think that all of the tech we summoned over the last thirty years will be as relevant as punchcards soon, as new AI-driven processes and languages spring up. Shipping more has helped me deal with this.

I think since coding is so easy now that I find myself wasting time building dumb stuff where as before i built dumb things i thought they were a good idea now. Im wasting much more time shipping these days

When someone rips a site, torches light, but if you step back and consider, the best designs trigger our pattern recognition. "Rips" constitute efforts to unify design the same way musical covers represent an acknowledgement of base origin and genre

@lennysan @flosalihovic This. The job is harder now because there is so much to review. We need tools to help us converge on a design through tuning.

"Using coding agents well is taking every inch of my 25 years of experience as a software engineer, and it is mentally exhausting. I can fire up four agents in parallel and have them work on four different problems, and by 11am I am wiped out for the day. There is a limit on human cognition. Even if you're not reviewing everything they're doing, how much you can hold in your head at one time. There's a sort of personal skill that we have to learn, which is finding our new limits. What is a responsible way for us to not burn out, and for us to use the time that we have?" @simonw

"Using coding agents well is taking every inch of my 25 years of experience as a software engineer." Simon Willison (@simonw) is one of the most prolific independent software engineers and most trusted voices on how AI is changing the craft of building software. He co-created Django, coined the term "prompt injection," and popularized the terms "agentic engineering" and "AI slop." In our in-depth conversation, we discuss: 🔸 Why November 2025 was an inflection point 🔸 The "dark factory" pattern 🔸 Why mid-career engineers (not juniors) are the most at risk right now 🔸 Three agentic engineering patterns he uses daily: red/green TDD, thin templates, hoarding 🔸 Why he writes 95% of his code from his phone while walking the dog 🔸 Why he thinks we're headed for an AI Challenger disaster 🔸 How a pelican riding a bicycle became the unofficial benchmark for AI model quality Listen now 👇 youtu.be/wc8FBhQtdsA

@forgebitz You could adopt a persona to represent the “founder”. I don’t know if that’s been tried, but I’d sure like to see what happens.

If you feel uninspired as a dev, try another language. Build something bizarre and useless as a sort of punk rock response to the limitations and gating being foisted on you.

Spent 7K on "subscriptions" last year. Github, Vercel, Figma, Prime, Netflix, Adobe ($69/mo!), many others. I look through the list and it doesn't feel like my life would be much different without many of them. But I want them.

We'll become performance tuners and our value will be determined by our specific expertise across a particular stack. Wonder how design skills will re-factor in? Will this skillset emerge as a benefit to these future SAs?

Perhaps this is an unpopular opinion, but I think the collapse of the Galactic Republic in the Star Wars prequels is one of the greatest plots in all of fiction, and Palpatine himself is one of greatest villains ever written. The grand story arc itself is as close to perfection as you can get, but much of this is overshadowed in popular discourse by the prequels’ poor dialogue and attempts at comedic relief that backfired.

> be Anthropic > run by doomers who literally think humanity is a plague > mass-suspend any account you don’t like for literally zero reason > entire business model: "we tell you exactly what code to write, how to use it, and how to breathe, peasant" > absolutely despise open-source AI and dedicate entire divisions to strangling it in the crib > because you can't stand the idea of code you don't explicitly own and control > “accidentally” leak your own Claude source code on npm in the biggest tech own-goal of the decade > immediately panic, DMCA the entire planet, and nuke the accounts of anyone who even looked at the link > act like digital North Korea on bath salts Nothing screams "we own you and will destroy you if you disobey" quite like punishing your own users for your incompetent leak 🤡
