Shift in tone. This goes for the whole series, it always had some sense of humour about itself to break up the horror elements but that's been slowly bleeding out of the series as they aim for a more purely serious tone and it's taken some of the unique flavour from the series.

@Snowdemon55 @dmc3lady You can play aggressive, but you will need to use shotgun, grenades, magnum to take control like that. As opposed to the original where any gun allows that type of battle re-shaping

@dmc3lady This is honestly a perfect showcase as to why I prefer the og to the remakes combat
The original rewarded the player for having good accuracy by allowing them to be aggressive against enemies, throw out a kick, and take down massive hordes, the remake just feels like it punishes-

@dmc3lady I know but it's inconsistent. At close range those grabs are hitting you regardless of what you do. Also you still had to parry in that clip because you couldn't run out of way. On professional enemies shrug off most shots that makes the gameplay you're showing impossible.

@BoltTheWord I usually agree with this but RE is not about the story and the games have been mostly good after RE5. So they can keep it going.

Resident Evil should have ended with RE5. It's ok for franchises to end, that was the perfect endcap. Wesker is defeated. Chris and Jill are reunited. Chris accepts the life of fighting bio-terrorism with optimism for a better future. No game released since has topped it.

Today I officially decided to drop out of my PhD program.

Welp, that second article just got rejected by my department after I waited months. They didn’t even bother giving me feedback this time. My options now are to submit my thesis with articles I wrote as a journalist which I doubt they’ll accept or withdraw altogether. Fantastic.

zendaya is an interesting modern celebrity in that she's insanely famous, she's famous for being an actress, she's in lots of movies, but she's never really starred in a hit* or "opened" a movie.

What is basically being suggested is that these critics are so desperate for a game that has a familiar title, that they should be willing to accept works which do not appeal to them at all.
But that makes no sense.

The annoying thing in discussions of modern sequels/remakes for classic games is that while everyone obviously agrees on the value of a new work featuring *something* original, people act as if it's offensive to suggest it should still share some appeal with previous works

I think it’s very obvious why teens started flocking to anime in the 2010s and it’s direct consequence of shows like these being cancelled for stuff that appeals to 6 year olds only

The problem with 2010s cartoons is that the tv networks cancelled a lot of their best shows early on in favour of more short-form comedy series.

The most frustrating response to this I've seen have been people going "well if it can't be too different and it can't be 100% accurate to the original what do you expect remakes to be" like they can't fathom we just don't want the industry flooded with remakes at all
