@drivenbyfilms Well, it dropped from 4.2 to 4.1. I predict it will drop more once it hits the streaming services. Its going to age poorly.

obsession still sitting at 4.1/5 on average rating with almost 1M reviews now… bow down to the horror film of the year

@rhustyphina01 @ELONisAXIS The really frustrating thing is that he is able to fool otherwise smart people. I can think of a handful of X accounts that rightfully chastise Platner but fall for Mamdani's BS. I actually think that M. might be more antisemitic than P.

@Tamaramonkey @zoeyduatch Where is it written that horror movies can't be told from the victim's perspective? I think a movie told from the point of view of someone forced to fight a demon for control over her own body would be more interesting, but I guess B lacks the imagination to pull that off.

he said this up when the interviewer brought up how the movie handles consent, which is even more telling to me. i have mentioned multiple times how important it is for so many people that the movie explores different kinds of SA, and i’m so glad curry fought to keep that.

Curry Barker was offered $2 million to rewrite ‘OBSESSION’ and have Bear as the hero. “I’m not rewriting the script to make Bear a guy that does all the right things.” (Source: hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-f…)

@WolfmansGotNard When people argue that Barker made his point about incel entitlement and bodily automomy clear, I will point them in the direction of your OP. Barker's social commentary doesn't deserve the praise it's getting.

@daemonslut @DiscussingFilm I don't think Barker should get credit for writing a progressive script when he relied on the degradation of the female lead for horror entertainment. I felt a similar way when people were falling over themselves to lick Yorgos Lanthimos' ahole when Poor Things premiered.

LFG, @ruwaromman! Ruwa is a next-generation leader fighting against data center construction, burgeoning healthcare and utility costs, + landlord greed. She'll always serve Georgians, not corporations and special interests. @Leaderswedeserv was proud to support your incredible campaign

@daemonslut @DiscussingFilm I never said that Barker endorsed false imprisonment or rape. I just dont think those are topics he wants to explore in a meaningful way.

@Tamaramonkey @zoeyduatch The film objectified Nikki in the same way Bear did. We never got to know her as a character apart from her relationship to Bear.

@Tamaramonkey @zoeyduatch I've heard this argument before and I reject it. By sticking slavishly to Bear's perspective, it keeps Nikki's true thoughts and feelings at a distance. As a result, her character, the true victim, is never fleshed out. Barker simply isn't interested in her journey.

@daemonslut @DiscussingFilm A large PERCENTAGE of the movie's scenes is dedicated to Bear's perspective because Barker is not interested in his victim's. Just because I disagree with you doesn't mean I'm wrong. Your attitude is dismissive.

@strappyshoe @DiscussingFilm You're wrong but whatever. I am tired of recapping the entire movie to you with limited character tweets. "Few and far" is silly because the movie doesn't even have that many scenes due to the runtime + each scene is long and drawn out for suspense.

@strappyshoe @DiscussingFilm How are you blaming the artist for interpretations made by other (stupid) people?! You and I clearly interpret it a different way. The characters in his written work interpreted it that way. The interviews they interpret it that way. He literally wrote/directed the rape scene!!

@zoeyduatch The net effect is a movie that asks the audience to sympathize with a man who is terrified by his steretypically crazy gf. There is a reason why this movie resonates with manosphere types. 2/2

@zoeyduatch People are giving Barker way too much credit. If Barker were truly interested in the introduced themes of male entitlement and objectification of women, then he would have spent more then 2% of the movie on Nikki's perspective. 1/2

@daemonslut @DiscussingFilm So? Those scenes are few and far between. Most of the movie post-wish consists of a stereotypically hysterical gf torturing Bear. 1/2

@daemonslut @DiscussingFilm There is space between a not-good guy coward and a rapist. The movie doesn't fully see him for who he is, & the net effect is a product that asks the audience to sympathize with a man who is terrified by his crazed girlfriend. That's why Critical Drinker & Michael Knowles like it
