@kewgardens1 I'm sure he would have been. No one wants Iran to win anything. I see the big guy just claimed that he's achieved regime change. When are the new elections?

@tkod2001 Don’t know. 2026 is different than 1944. But I am sure he would have been pulling for the US over Iran.

@kewgardens1 Don’t worry, the 82nd airborne is on the way. Just the way Omar Bradley would have wanted

@tkod2001 Ground forces were never going to be used in the theater until Iran’s military capabilities (air force, air defenses, navy, missiles, artillery, etc.) were wiped out or severely degraded. That was going to take weeks. No need to move the Marines into the war zone until then.

@kewgardens1 Then why weren’t the marine already on their way? Raisin Caine himself warned him what could happen. Trumps ego got ahead of him. It’s ok, eventually he will declare mission accomplished

@tkod2001 Not true. From the get go, Administration officials predicted the campaign would last at least 4-6 weeks & potentially much longer. Claims that the White House believed the operation would be quick are revisionist history unsupported by facts & used simply to bash Trump.

@kewgardens1 additional limited! So unprepared, they they have had to ship marines in 3 weeks after they thought the Iranians would collapse. And the 82nd Airborne are planning their visit as well. Not sure Omar Bradley would agree that this has been thought out.

@tkod2001 Iraq and Afghanistan were endless, massive boots on the ground campaigns. This operation, in contrast, has been aerial (with the possibility of additional limited special forces activity). Very different. And Gulf states & Saudi remain strongly with us.

@kewgardens1 As noted The US had demonstrated in Iraq and Afghanistan a genius for tactical military brilliance accompanied by strategic and political stupidity. Trump, we clearly see, learnt nothing from America’s glaring failures of the last quarter-century.

@tkod2001 The military knows exactly what it is doing — weakening Iraq’s military capabilities across the board. That is the primary objective of the campaign. If such weakening leads to the downfall of the regime in the future that will fulfill an aspiration goal. This is not complicated

@NickKristof The closure of the Strait is itself a “war crime.” As is murdering 30K of your citizens, using ballistic missiles to deliberately target cities & mass murder civilians & dropping cluster munitions. You can’t fight a war with both arms tied behind your back. That’s how you lose.

1.) President Trump appears to be threatening a war crime; 2.) This will go over badly with other Gulf countries, for Iran will then attack their power plants and perhaps desalination; 3.) Iran won't reopen the Strait, because closure is what gives it leverage.
The White House@WhiteHouse

🚨 “If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST…” - President DONALD J. TRUMP

@kewgardens1 Then call it a day and move on.Nothing to be gained now. You'll be singing a different tune soon. Cost me $60 more to fill my car today. Normally $140. The problem is once again you all think you live in a bubble

@tkod2001 No, brilliantly planned. Nuclear program further degraded. Ballistic missile program cut to shreds. Military infrastructure & IRGC leadership wiped out. Limited collateral damaged in Israel & Gulf. Minimal U.S. (6 combat, 13 total) & Israeli (17-19) deaths. Gas still $3.90/GL.

For the record, the president of the United States is now simultaneously claiming that he has won the war, is currently winning the war, needs help to win the war, and needs no help to win the war. All to destroy the nuclear program he claims to have already destroyed last year.

@EricBoehm87 In Vietnam, America lost 58,000 men — 200+ dead EVERY WEEK for more than five years! So far in the Iran conflict, we have lost 13 heroes. And I would argue that we have accomplished more in two weeks than we achieved in eight years in Vietnam.

In 72 hours we went from: Trump never expected the possibility of Hormuz closing, To: Trump was briefed Hormuz could close but riskily did it anyway, To: Trump bombed Kharg Island but it likely won’t force Iran to open the Strait To: Iran opened the Strait

@tkod2001 @ReubenR80027912 During the Reagan years, the liberal left was primary focused on sustaining anti-American regimes in places like Nicaragua and undermining America in its existential struggle with the Soviet Union (nuclear freeze, anti-SDI, reduced defense spending). Great job guys!

If you added up the hours of every WWII movie ever made, it would EXCEED the total # of hours between D-Day 1944 & VE Day 1945 This lionization of the greatest Gen occurred simply b/c it was the last “good” war as our society moved away from ingredients needed for “good wars”
Mike Coté@ratlpolicy

The impatience around the Iran war has been genuinely astounding to see. And it's an indictment of modern American culture. Imagine if the media reaction after the Battle of Midway was to criticize FDR for the loss of a carrier & ask when we'd retake the Philippines. Absurd.
