@ajphelo I found the both sides-ing in the article a hard read We have the CCP shrill, essentially mouth foaming, ranting about a return of imperial japan, how can nuke Japan on a whim if they feel like it Meanwhile Japan literally doing nothing wrong, would like to keep existing

@rpotter_9 I suspect his use of phrases such as propaganda, divorced from reality, fantasy, doesn't understand without any qualifiers are what led to Parker referring to it as lacking respect If someone called my work divorced from reality I'd also be unimpressed

Here’s his comment. I don’t agree with it but it’s not an unfair one and some of it has merit even if I still think the program should go ahead. x.com/mrrexpatrick/s…
Rex Patrick@MrRexPatrick

More #AUKUS propaganda from former naval officer Jennifer Parker! Parker is correct that the US’s Columbia ballistic missiles sub program being priority 1 is not news, but in her usual ‘defence strategy divorced from ship delivery reality’ dismisses the real danger to our national security that the current circumstances in the US present. The US wants 66 fast attack subs. They only have 48 (the number went down from 49 last week after the US gave up on the shipyard that was refitting USS Boise, announcing the sub will be decommissioned). Since 2011 the US Navy has been ordering 2 new subs per annum, but their shipyards are only delivering 1.1. They can’t get to 2 … but need to get to 2.3 to be able to deliver subs to the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). Under US law, subs cannot be transferred to the RAN if doing so would degrade US undersea capabilities. This was the genesis of Defense Under Secretary Elbridge Colby’s review into AUKUS - a review that was going to recommend canning the sub deal until Trump (who will not be US President when the subs are due to be transferred) intervened - recognising the Australian money pumped into US shipyards is a beautiful thing, particularly in the absence of a contract for delivery. Sitting in front of fixing the fast attack sub program is the troubled Columbia ballistic missile sub program. Parker fails to (or simply doesn’t want to) appreciate the impact of the ‘priority’ circumstances. The troubled Columbia sub building program fixes sit ahead of the problem laden Virginia sub building program fixes. None of this seems to matter to Parker, who engages in fantasy strategy when it comes to AUKUS. She has complete faith in a hierarchy inside Defence that announced in 2009 it was procuring 12 new subs, but is now having to spend $11B to extend the life of our Collins Class because the organisation has failed to come up with a replacement in that time. Well, to be fair, they did actually spend $4 billion not getting French subs 🤦‍♂️. Parker has no experience in naval shipbuilding (I experienced the Collins sub build program first hand, was a project manager feeding sonar systems into the German Type 214 sub building program - doing sea trials on those subs - and also worked briefly inside the US sub program - also doing sea trials on USS Santa Fe). She does not understand project management risk. She fills her void of knowledge in this discipline with enthusiasm and hope. AUKUS is dangerous; dangerous to national security, dangerous to the budget and dangerous to our submariners who might be asked to venture into combat with aging and unreliable Collins Class subs. Even if this were all to go well, which it won’t, the opportunity cost of AUKUS is just too high. There is so much more we could do with $368 billion. #auspol

It’s not abuse to criticize someone’s position. I don’t agree with @MrRexPatrick on AUKUS but it’s not fair to assume his criticism of Jennifer Parker is gendered. He dissent like AUKUS, I respect that. These vicious attacks by Parker on peers are getting too frequent.

I traveled to Russia when I was 17, and I kid you not I feared for my life as our plane was touching down in Moscow. As an American, I was taught to fear Russians as a people. However, after my first day on the ground, I was confronted with how inaccurate my education was. I was confronted by the generosity of it's people, the rich depths of it's culture and history, and an excitement to return home and say to my friends "Everything you know about Russia is a lie." Russia reminded me of home. It reminded me of the United States, really. A proud people who are part of a proud civilization with a distinct culture that sits confidently separate from an outside, Western force. And people wonder why I "simp" for Russia, why I'm skeptical of the centuries of propaganda we're told about Russia, both as a Soviet Republic and in the present. Well, it is that very reason, who is telling us these things, that I've come to distrust these exact sentiments. I found Socialism, Communism, Anti-Imperialism in the years following, and was confused why "leftists" toe the NATO line, the establishment line, on American foreign policy in regards to Russia. I was confused why "leftists" distrust establishment sentiments regarding Cuba, China, and Venezuela, rightfully calling out this propaganda of the Liberal Democratic world, yet fall for it all the same when it comes to Russia. It's not lost on me that these exact propagandists were successful in connecting Russia, and Putin specifically, with the MAGA base surrounding Donald Trump. With one fell swoop, they single-handedly rebirthed a sort of new Red Scare. Not one based on the fear mongering of "far left authoritarian regimes", but one fear mongering over some sort of Fascistic force in the East, as if that's not the exact force with which the Democrats are operating in Ukraine. I say to leftists, Western Marxists, and the like, you've come to distrust the establishment narrative regarding most American adversarial states, so why not Russia? After all, the world is not as it seems.

No they cannot, and if you question my assertion, ask why China is also involved in the biggest build up of nuclear powered submarines in recent memory. Do physics somehow work differently for them? Its like dealing with toddlers.

Chinese researchers have developed a new gravity-based detector that could be used to find submarines and render the proposed AUKUS submarine redundant. johnmenadue.com/post/2026/04/n…

@chenweihua @ChingteLai @TaiwanPresSPOX What happened to the other part of the no consensus consensus of 2000 backdated to 1992? The bit about "many interpretations" besides if the no consensus consensus even happened, it was an agreement between two previously undemocratic parties and not the government of Taiwan

"And so that translates very quickly to the whole question of China, and Elbridge Colby, one of the United States warmonger strategists, made it very clear in his book The Strategy of Denial that it was the intention of the US to use Taiwan both as pretext and proxy to instigate a war involving China again with the purpose of bogging China in a protracted conflict which would inhibit its economic growth and impede its capacity to cooperate in economic development with other countries. And the US has made it perfectly clear that it expects Japan, the Philippines and Australia to come to the defense of Taiwan. So that (the 3 countries) would be part of the network of proxies that would be used to embroil China in a war that would distract it from its peaceful development, cooperation right across the Global South... The US has of course described Australia as, I quote, the epicenter of the projection of US power in the Indo-Pacific. So even if the US engaged in a kinetic war with China, it would be launched from, and conducted from, Australia. Which would inevitably make the facilities in Australia a target for China." (John Lander, former Deputy AU Ambassador to China 1975-1978, former 1st AU Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran, 1985-1988) -quoted from the forthcoming @OpalSkyMedia volume Willful Blindness: Inside Australian Diplomacy - John Lander: Oral History / Commentary x.com/OpalSkyMedia/s…

@troppofella @RobertCettl Taiwan has already aligned itself with China. A month ago it was formalized in China. It appears that Taiwan has sought this agreement for months as it doesn’t like or trust America who wants to embroil it between an American/China war.
