@Noahvalerrio Unquestionably so. He’s a great player who slots into most midfields itw.
That being said, I think it’s valid to question his fit given the makeup of our squad and the degree to which our midfielders overlap in profile.
English

I struggle to see the justification behind ~100m on Tonali.
Has elite qualities (intensity, duel winner, ball striking) but ones already in the squad. Passing is better than marketed but it's when facing play. He struggles to play on the half-turn & is poor in smaller spaces.

#Tottenham are now trying to speed up a deal for Sandro Tonali. [@MatteMoretto] 🥇
English

@BinAffleck Definitely. Tonali is objectively good but just ill-fitting
English

@viahalfspace For sure if it was up to me I’d just grab Wharton way more suitable to our current team
English

@alexiboaslav Still need players to receive between the lines, something he struggles to do.
English

@viahalfspace JPVH and sensi will be out deep playmakers. Our midfielders will be destroyers and carriers
English

@viahalfspace It can be a good signing depending on the other midfielder we bring in, as a standalone signing it’s awful especially at that price point. The rice level price fee is meant to transform your team, I don’t think he does that
English

@BinAffleck Generally, I’m not a fan of big money moves necessitating further transfers. If you’re paying that level of fee, it shouldn’t bring more questions than it answers.
English

@viahalfspace Not made at this as long as the next midfielder is 90th percentile passer I’m happy
English

Nicholas Jackson is, and always has been, incredibly good at football
loading@viahalfspace
Jackson is the rare combo of: - UCL level athlete: elite top speed & burst, can make sprints all 90, agile in small spaces - fantastic mover OTB, both in behind & finding space - Associative 9 who combines well with others - Tireless when leading the press - xG magnet
English

@BIoomster I knew you'd be fighting the good fight. Now, we wait for time to right us once again
English

@viahalfspace I knew mister viahalfspace would see very little justification for splurging so much money on Tonali.

@viahalfspace In todays market everyone is valued at 100million plus. This Inflation is disgusting
English

@Reuben493 @ThfcSass I need to go back and re-watch his Milan, but it feels like Bruno G took a lot of responsibility over the items we need
English

@viahalfspace @ThfcSass I dont think do he has an amazing engine wants to play for us is prem proven a leader experienced and was the profile we crave now when at Milan his pass appreciation is still there just used less in hiwes system
English

@viahalfspace He can do it .. he is not worth that money for sure , Im with u , but half of the players in the market also .. just the inflation is high
English

@thfcElPresident Probably so. Regardless, we don't currently have the player to hold Tonali's hand through a lot of what we'd be paying him for.
Club record fee for a player the necessitates further transfer business<<<
English

@viahalfspace at the highest level I think even Bruno G is a Robin, but tbf he is one of the rare players who fit being a Robin at a top side and a Batman at a lesser team just as well;
English

@bloomkral Only thing I have to add is how remarkable it was that the recruitment team managed to overpay for a player who was not playing & whose best traits were some of the few we actually possessed.
English

@viahalfspace The Gallagher deal somehow has managed to get worse and worse since completion, and it was a complete horrorshow even in realtime. He not only sucks on the ball and limits play, he also likits squad decisions and planning.
A true 1/10 stinker of a transfer. Catastrophic.
English

@viahalfspace Tonali as a an all round midfielder .. and thats why De zerbi wants him , I don't remember in any roberto's team that he wants a deep lying playmaker or a just good passer .. he have a visions in his ' dream team ' like he said .. so no need to worry , he know what he do
English

@thfcElPresident yeah, I just view him as a Robin to someone's Batman. I found his performances without Bruno G pretty alarming.
English

@viahalfspace for us, he is worth 40m;
for a team needing a secondary midfielder in the pivot, probably worth 65-70m, mainly because there is good supply of all rounder b2b MFs;
English

@fransanity76 he’s definitely a better passer than what he’s shown, but I’m more concerned about his ability to take the ball on the half turn + he’s not overly comfortable in smaller spaces.
I struggle to see how he moves the needle for us in a way that justifies the massive price tag.
English

@viahalfspace Think his passing gets downplayed cuz I feel like Howe ball was very detrimental to it, while he showed good flashes at milan
But that was years ago and I’m Worried if they don’t sign a passer alongside him
English

very good player. Still have concerns about him as an athlete & how it impacts future transfer work, but he & Senesi up our passing quality in deeper areas considerably.

Jan Paul van Hecke • Welcome to Tottenham
English

@NoHypeThoughts definitely enough to still be effective, but it’s a limitation nonetheless
English

@viahalfspace Has the positioning iq to make up for the lack of pace imo

Haaland POCKETED by Van Hecke 😳💪
