a16z just announced their newest fund - $15 billion! I had @bhorowitz on Uncapped to discuss how they run the firm, how he thinks about venture talent, a16z's overall investment approach, deploying capital at scale, media, and more. He's easily one of the most impressive people I've gotten to have on the podcast. Hope you enjoy.

Does Marc keep Ben in a closet? Sometimes he says wonderful things that appear to be totally disconnected from reality. “We’re not interested in heat seeking” “We’re not just trying to be in the few big winners” “We don’t want to go public because it will incentivise us to maximize fee income” It’s like he’s running a wonderful venture firm in his head that has nothing to do with a16z today.

@jaltma @bhorowitz The network to be confident. That’s good. Someone asked me this last week about a16z and what it’s like working with them. Here’s what I wrote.

This is the part young founders often miss. When a16z raises $15B, it’s not just capital it’s a system: talent, networks, media, and the discipline to keep learning at scale. That’s the real lesson. To the next generation: Your passion is not a hobby it’s raw capital. If you stay curious, keep building skills, and refuse to quit when things get uncomfortable, you can turn almost any obsession into value. You don’t need to be perfect. You just need to keep showing up long enough for progress to compound.

@jaltma @bhorowitz $15B fund is wild. Biggest question: how do you deploy at that scale without watering down conviction? Would love a thread on that 👀

@jaltma @bhorowitz $15 billion is either going to produce the best returns in venture history or become a masterclass in why mega funds can't beat the S&Pprobably find out in 2034

@jaltma @bhorowitz Venture capital at scale is the ultimate expression of capital allocation. $15B is a significant concentration of power. This fund will dictate the next cycle of technological productivity. Scale is the only moat.

$15B isn’t just capital — it’s infrastructure leverage. 📊 How a16z deploys capital at scale determines which networks, protocols, and climate-critical systems get built first. Tracking these infrastructure flows is key to spotting where carbon-smart markets and energy systems scale fastest 🌱 We cover this at CarbonFi.io.
