While Ding/Gukesh are not exactly the most “legit” WCs, as nobody was ever going to beat Carlsen, they absolutely are not Mickey Mouse titles. That belongs to the knockout cup era, where the likes of Ponomariov and Kasimszhanov went on heaters and ended up with a title, rather than a match

At this point, Sindarov should just make easy, no-risk draws until someone proves they can get within reach. How he's playing today is perfect strategy. What a monstrous run, it's hard to see anyone other than Caruana able to come close. It's extremely hard to create play as Black when White doesn't want to allow it — borderline impossible. The advantage of White in top-flight competition isn't exactly a pure positional thing, rather, it's the college football OT advantage of knowing what result you need, and being able to steer the game accordingly. Black either has to purposely accept a worse position, which is borderline suicidal against top level players with prep, or follow the lines until the board is sterilized.

FIDE has removed Karjakin 🇷🇺 from the rating list again.
Not due to his war propaganda, or for bringing weapons to Russian🇷🇺 soldiers at the front used to kill innocent Ukrainians🇺🇦.
But due to a rules technicality.....

FIDE March 2026 Rating List – Correction❗️ According to Article 0.2.1 of the FIDE Rating Regulations, a tournament and its playing schedule must be registered: 0.2.1 Not later than 30 days before the tournament starts, if one of the players in the tournament is rated in excess of 2700, or a female player rated in excess of 2500. Due to an oversight in the approval process, the Russian Chess Crown match was included in the March 2026 FIDE Rating List in breach of these regulations. Once the error was identified, the Qualification Commission (QC) removed the event from the FIDE Rating System in accordance with the applicable rules. As a result, Sergey Karjakin’s status has been changed to inactive, and he has been removed from the list of active players in the #FIDERating list. The FIDE Qualification apologises for any issues this may have caused with the release of the new rating list, and will work at improving the approval process in the future. @HooReallyCares @PHChess I actually don’t care what any chess player thinks, does, or says. If they’re able to meet the entry requirements of a tournament and play, why should I care about anything other than the chess they play?

@HooReallyCares @PHChess I understand perfectly what Karjakin supports, but I also simply don’t care, as I don’t think before you’re allowed to play a FIDE tournament, you need to fill out your political compass test, and if your views aren’t approved of by FIDE, you don’t deserve to play.
