Hi all #MedTwitter ! Working on something. Lots of negativity surrounding the Physician Associate role, which is affecting PAs on the ground. Could you comment on how you see PAs working successfully within the NHS to support the medical team and maintain patient safety?

Extraordinary happenings at @RCPhysicians today. In process not dissimilar to Putin’s recent re-election, Fellows are voting for a new College President. Except there is only one candidate and not voting for them is literally not an option 😳

@traineENT @simondoyle87 If we assume that individuals who hold a significant opinion are much more likely to return the survey, would this negatively impact the generalisability of the survey?

@traineENT @simondoyle87 Is that true? Will look into this and delete thread if I feel it's disingenuous! What would the value of these surveys hold if 10% was acceptable? I would presume this would be concentration of individuals wanting to vote and therefore not a true reflection on general feeling?

@simondoyle87 It was just a mere observation! Do you agree that the return rate of 17.8% is poor though? Perhaps I was naive to think that many more would be involved with the PA debate?

@AnalysisDrawer Disappointing for whom. And for me, because I usually respect your fairly balanced viewpoint. Do you aspire to just 'not negative'? The idea that neutrality is considered a positive for an emerging profession boggles the mind.

@simondoyle87 Disappointing for who? Only 17.8% of people replied to a survey for an EGM which has an extremely occurrence about a super polarising subject? Of which a significant proportion was indifferent or positive?

@LukeAmos__ I understand your point! But even then, for an EGM that has only happened a handful of times which is so polarised, to have a response rate of 17.8? Do you agree that's quite poor?

@AnalysisDrawer You’ve got to remember who is actually eligible to vote though, I’m not A lot of the members of the RCP are probably the less likely to be involved in the PA discussion than any ‘average’ doctor currently in the training world
