The first global Humanitarian Memorial was launched today by HRH the Prince of Wales @KensingtonRoyal in Gunnersbury Park, London. Created by artist Michael Landy CBE, the memorial commemorates humanitarians of all nationalities who have been killed in service, and honours those who continue to put their lives at risk to help others in need. 2024 was the deadliest year for humanitarians since records have been kept, with 383 aid workers killed across 27 countries. Ninety-seven percent were local aid workers, and almost half were killed in Gaza. The DEC supported the Humanitarian Memorial Committee in realising this memorial. Speaking at the launch Sayyeda Salam, CEO of DEC charity @Concern Worldwide said: "Humanitarian organisations, many of them represented here today, have lost colleagues in recent months. ...This memorial is a place to honour them. But it is also a reminder to us — to keep speaking up for their protection, to celebrate and stand up for the values they lived by, and to keep carrying forward their work with courage and compassion." #HumanitarianMemorial See our photo gallery of some the incredible aid workers risking their lives to save others: dec.org.uk/world-humanita…
