A man just surprised his wife with a new home. It was bigger and nicer than where they were currently staying. He took her for a tour of their new home, as we can see she was very excited about it. Then she finds out that he was able to only get the loan for the house in his name only. Being married she’s still entitled to half if anything happened, however she wasn’t happy about this and insists that he bought the home for her and that it should only be in her name. @TexansCommenter Nico def played slot, all of them can, not like their set position, but situationally, yes. And I agree, he can give pointers on adjusting certain route concepts, etc, but he’s not gonna be in there on the chalk board, teaching them the offense. That’s on coaches and reps.

Teaching the EP offense is certainly a thing. A veteran slot is a specific target. Nico isn’t a slot wr and hasn’t played slot on this system. Nico is still 27 and could’ve used a vet to help him on how to adjust routes in this O last year honestly. He struggled early on on sight adjustments. The texans themselves have specifically targeted veteran slot wrs and made it known publicly they were. It’s for a good reason.

Hunter Renfrow is a name that could be a fit for the Texans that I haven’t seen mentioned. Likely a vet minimum signing who’d provide backend slot WR depth, and he has experience in an EP offense under Josh McDaniels in LV in ’22 and ’23. Jaylin Noel is currently the only true slot with NFL reps on the roster, and Renfrow could at least help on the mental side of the scheme. Worst case, he’s a camp body who helps teach the offense and adds layer of competition on bottom or depth chart. This would be a move that makes sense if the staff is committed to giving Noel the lion’s share of slot snaps in ’26.

@TexansCommenter He can give vet tricks and some route running pointers, but “teaching the scheme” is just not how it goes. Nico is our vet, why does everyone think we need all of these old guys? He’s going into year 2, he knows the plays. He needs reps.

@BobbyRayJr This scenario Renfrow isn’t taking from any of them. If anything he’s a major benefit to teaching the scheme to Noel like I said above.

Guys like Lee Hunter, Kaden McDonald, Gracen Halton, Zane Durant, and Chris Miller play to the whistle. They all have their flaws when it comes to technique and areas they need to work at and “develop”

I really cannot understand why would you see how Jaylin Noel play at a high level as a rookie in limited reps because he was blocked by Christian Kirk then Kirk leaves and want to sign another vet WR with very little juice in the pass game. You don’t draft a player in the top 80 who shows really explosiveness then continue to load up the room to stop him from getting a real role.
