at what point does SF's NIMBYism make it a hostile and too expensive place for new startups? Certainly makes it hard for the unfunded eventually the California undersupply of housing becomes the primary obstacle to tech and innovation (and thus the larger US economy) Lots of people working on this but this video is nuts

The only remaining movie theater in dtsj also just shut down. Five billion + $ of "redevelopment" and decades of subsidies have turned the central district into a vast homeless encampment encircled by empty light rail trains, barren windswept urban "plazas," gang shootings, and the odd hungover stragglers coming down from booze-filled street parties.

As of tonight, downtown San José will have just two Starbucks down from a peak of eight. Does anyone know why?

@devahaz You say that like it's a bad thing. This isn't happenstance; I don't want to live near the EBT class. But not just them. I don't want to live among the working poor either whose income level justifies theft in their mind (Whole Foods employees "just stealing from Bezos" etc)

Bay Area housing crisis largely boils down to everyone supports more housing at a conceptual level, but most homeowners just don’t want any chance of people significantly poorer than them living anywhere near them
