@jpalmiotti Real talk: Most things we back on kickstarter are good "for independent books". We know they don't rise to the level of the big two, and are happy to sponsor people we like. Jimmy's kickstarters are as good as any book you walk into the store and buy! Try it out, you'll thank me

The hardest part of doing any Kickstarter is how comic sites have no desire to cover campaigns & also is seeing the crazy amount of people you interact daily with on social media not even backing a digital level of something you worked so hard on. It's a reality I hope changes.

@SergioCollects In comics, it's usually the appearance as it relates to the character everyone knows. Many instances of seeing pics, etc. of characters prior to their first appearance, but it doesn't traditionally count. Check Groots first appearance, Captain Marvel, etc.

Wolverine and Weapon X program first appearance — and it’s not Hulk #180 or #181 🤯 I purchased a 9.2 grade of what I believe to be Wolverine’s first appearance, as well as the origins of the Weapon X program. A few days ago I became aware of a book I’d never heard of before called FOOM #2, which was published by Marvel comics nearly 2 years before Incredible Hulk #180 & #181 — the long established first appearances of the character. Since then I’ve spent hours researching as much as I could about this book. In short, Marvel ran a contest for their subscription magazine titled “FOOM”, in which they asked comic book fans to submit drawings of original superheroes and villains. One of the entries was from a young fan named Andy Olsen, who from what I’ve gathered was around 13 years old at the time. He titled his entry “The Wolverine”. His entry ended up becoming one of the runner-ups in the contest. What’s interesting is, that among the dozens of participants, his is the only one that illustrates more than one character pose. In fact, he presents an entire collage of illustrations that tell a story. Now, let’s examine the illustration he submitted. Starting from the top right and working your way to the left of the art submission, you can see the evolution of what can only be described as [Logan] transitioning into Weapon X. For reference, I’ve attached some image Illustrations from the entry and compared them to illustrations from the Weapon X comic that came many years later. As you continue to work your way counterclockwise, you can see him first laying down with his cut-open body revealing metal insides. This harkens to Wolverine’s adamantium skeleton. The illustration then shows Wolverine struggling to break away from all the wires that were used to restrain him while having his skeletal frame infused with metal, and breaking free from them. Another interesting thing is that the cover of the comic book magazine also featured the Incredible Hulk, which is also the title where Wolverine would make his comic book debut nearly 2 years later. I’ve attached some images that I believe clearly shows that the Wolverine we know and love today was actually created by a 13-year-old nearly 2 years before Incredible Hulk #180 and #181. I believe Andy Olsen should be given creator credits alongside writer Len Wein and artists John Romita Sr. and Herb Trimpe. What are all your thoughts on this book? I’m obviously biased since I went ahead and bought the book. But would love to hear what everyone else thinks.

This is my life's work. Everything I've done from illustrator/designer to writer/director to product developer to founder and dreamer of what sometimes feel like insane/improbable/impossible dreams has culminated here. And it's still just the beginning. We are building this to propel and entire industry with this product and our platform. We're trying to re-align incentives for creators, producers, distribution and the very fundamental way that creative work is made and rewarded. We are building this to incite a future where every person who catches a spark of creativity and wants to participate in telling a story or imagining "what if" a favorite character did "this" or what if the story went in "that" direction can do it and be rewarded for it. We are starting with a revolutionary combination of art, tech and a sprinkling of black magic to deliver a first of its kind comics experience and this is just the foundation for a multi-format experience platform that I've been building in my head for a decade+. I've seen versions of this since I was a teenager and each experience and chapter of my career has brought it closer to reality. I'm one of the crazy ones who just keeps going, figuring it out, putting the pieces together and then going some more. It's evolved over time. There were pieces of this that I had no idea how to pull off like "digital collectibility" - that wasn't a thing until NFTs arrived. And then there it was... the solution to something I had on paper for years before it was possible. And now it's all possible. And in that context, I've been the luckiest of lucky people to find and attract a team of incredible people, collaborators and supporters who have bought into this vision and have toiled and sacrificed and put in the late nights and all of it help this first step on what is still a long term adventure to be realized... My co-founders - who I've know and worked with for over 20 years- @MacroverseAdam @rrukavina - We are brothers in this vision. Working with you to bring us to this point and being on this journey together is the only way I can imagine it happening. @SPerkinsArtist - The artist who made us wake up and turn DeadTown from a TV pilot script which didn't move forward when we thought it would into a Graphic Novel that I could not be prouder of. Steven is the inciting incident that lead to the TapStory format, the first series to launch our Mobile App, the creator of our first Character Collection (@DeadTownWorld Zeds) with and an unwavering supporter of all that we're doing. Now as our head of production as well as DeadTown collaborator - We could NOT do it without you. We get to work with so many incredibly talented makers - writers, artists, storytellers of all kinds... Playing a role in helping to bring your stories to life and in working together to realize ours is a dream come true. We want to do a lot more of both. @_benxit_ has lead the charge this year as our Chief Business Development Officer and we would not be where we are without him. He got the vision early on - so much so, that we're making a series with his @DeadHeadsTV character @SalBones666. He's an incredible collaborator, a genius networker, a whip smart thinker and most importantly a constant doer. The doors that he has opened this year will be fuel for years to come and if you know him, you know he's just getting started. Adam Fortier (@ComicsDAO) has played a significant role in expanding and accelerating the ways the world we build will be expressed across multiple formats and mediums over the next year and beyond. I thought I knew comics but he KNOWS comics. His insight and partnership continues to be invaluable. Our earliest investors @arieabec @paulsethi @RedBeardVC @DrewAustin both supported us from the earliest days AND stood by us as we made a crazy pivot from growing a mobile app to reinventing comics for web3 which at times seemed frankly bonkers and like we might not even EVER launch this thing. Thank you for helping me and us reach this point. @ekimunal is an unsung GENIUS in this space. He leads @PagziTech as our partners in building the magical tech that powers our platforms. They have seen this vision from the beginning and have poured countless hours and late nights into helping me get it just right, fine tuning the experience and making sure that we always deliver something innovative. What we've built together is groundbreaking and it's just scratching the surface of what's coming. Many other people from many other communities have supported us, encouraged us and helped us to get to this point. To all of you that have been excited by the concept of building a "real" product for entertainment in web3 and the vision we have to change the world of entertainment (and beyond) with it. My heart felt appreciation and thanks. Shout out to @Zeneca @RoninDaCC @emileevee @akasteveyyy and SOOO many more. This space, believe it or not, is actually filled with great people who want to do great things with and for the world. And to the Macroverse community directly. You show up EVERY day and GM and support us and more importantly support each other. It's a privilege to have gotten to know you and to work with you and to hear from you as this has and continues to unfold 🙏 To all of you and to everyone I'm forgetting... THANK YOU! From the bottom of my heart... THANK YOU! And finally, to anyone discovering all of this for the first time. Thank you for reading this. Thank you for your attention and consideration. I hope you'll take a closer look. If you like comics, if you like NFTs, if you hate NFTs but like comics ;) if you're interested in inventive ways that creators and makers tell stories and express themselves - this IS for you. Join us. Now. LETS FUCKING GO!

@TheBurnham Thinking that saying you read it in Japanese might be the key. For silent issues (a thing in comics) one would still be reading the book, not looking at it.

@RobWorst Perhaps due to the incorrect colouring of issue 1 and 2 of the hulk? Also they cut up parts of issue 1 for adverts, so maybe didn’t have enough to reprint?

@JaxCityComics @Kirby4Heroes It didn’t happen. All artists inherently retain the rights to their original art. The is has been standard since the beginning of the industry

@Kirby4Heroes You have likely already looked into this, but the understanding is that there was a legal document requiring the artwork be returned to Jack. Like artwork stolen decades before, this should allow you to pursue reclaiming it. Marvel gave it away or stole it in violation.

@RobWorst @anglwscbdwng1 Yeah. Learned from printing books overseas, shipping them in containers on boats, and finding out they’ve absorbed the moisture in the air……fun times!

@RobWorst @anglwscbdwng1 The pulp paper used for decades in the beginning have that special power. It’s less now, but paper absorbs! You unfortunately can’t fully reverse the process

@anglwscbdwng1 I got this Daredevil book that smells like a cross between an old faint sweet chemical like paint thinner. Left a drier sheet on the back and front for a few weeks & the smell lessened. Still not gone.

@ComicBookRobert @Angry_Staffer Personally, by remembering that bad people rely upon that fatigue so they can just keep doing what they do. The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing (debates as to whom actually said it, but someone smarter than us!)
