The most important way to maintain conviction is to be able to separate your bets vs their outcomes. You could make a perfectly good decision and still end up with a poor outcome because of events outside of your control (luck, blackswan events, politics, macro environment). It's easy to feel bad when you see your high conviction bags go down or sell only to see number go up. You may think you made a low quality decision -- when in reality there is no correlation. Being able to recognize what is out of your control allows you to focus on what you can control - your quality of thought and execution.
