Even if Reform were to win every Labour seat they're contesting, Starmer will not be out of office by the end of May. Even if he is out of office then, we'll end up with the likes of Ed Miliband or Angela Rayner as PM. Is that really what you want? These are local elections and influence things like adult social care, road maintenance, planning and development, not all the things Nigel lists. The fact is that no matter how much NF says these elections are a referendum on Kier Starmer's premiership, and no matter how much you want them to be, they are not. They are a referendum on your local authority. Niether are these some sort of mid-term elections. Nigel is conflating national with local issues and elections. many of you will tell me I'm wrong, but you know I'm not. And, because I know him I know he knows the difference. I therefore also know he's manipulating you. I'm truly disappointed. It's dishonest politics. He doesn't need to encourage and feed anger. Instead, he should try to win on merit, detail of policy and credibility of delivery.

@BearJFK 12 type 26 & 12 type 31s should be a must, add to that a deal with Sweden to build a version of their A26 SSK, maybe 6-8 of them & use an extended type 26 design for the type 83, ordering 12 of them too! Means we’d be running two surface ship designs & AUKUS + A26 for sub fleet

If they will buy that many, the RN should be allowed to order 13 in total. 18 ships of the same class would bring costs down significantly.

In reality a dramatic increase in mass is required. The RAF needs 50% more strike and air defence capacity and more enablers, the RN needs 50% more surface capability and 100% more SSNs and the Army needs 50% more ground forces and 100% more artillery and GBAD.

Offshore patrol vessels are not warships. The original plan to replace aging Type-23s with 13 fully-fledged Type-26s has been abandoned. Instead 8 Type-26 and 5 cheaper, less powerful Type-31. First Type-26 not til 2028 at earliest, Type-31s not til early in next decade.

The current state of the Royal Navy: 2 aircraft carriers — neither operational. 6 Type 45 destroyers (our most powerful warships) — one operational (in Cyprus). 7 Type 23 frigates (less powerful, much older) — three operational 5 Astute class nuke-powered subs — one operational (in Arabian Sea?). Surely those responsible for this appalling state of unreadiness (a national embarrassment if ever there was one)— political, civilian and military — should be fired/charged. Their incompetence has effectively left us without a navy. Quite an achievement for an ancient island nation.
