@FennellJW Type 83 needs to be scoped better than just a “one for one T45 replacement” with hundreds of missiles that we cannot afford 🤷🏻‍♂️

Lots of people understandably shocked by this, given war on two fronts. But we shouldn’t be surprised - reminder that the Red Book set out the exact cost of Labour’s u-turn on the 2 child benefit cap right up to 2031, no such clarity for the MoD. Where’s the DIP? Where’s the £?

@MtarfaL I don't think the DIP will be based on the current programme, so under or over, whatever it is will be different. Some legacy programmes will go, even if it was fully funded, as they are not longer strategic necessities.

Picking apart the story the logic is the DIP plan submitted by MoD is £28bn underfunded. The government may stump up £18bn but savings of £10bn will be found by pushing some projects to the right. Type 83 is topical due to the current crisis.

The leaks, the underfunded aspirations, the theatre and drama, its all just so bloody tiresome. Nothing changes, the only thing we are world class at is producing defence reviews that fall on their arse shortly after publication

£20bn of that is to cover poor cost management, scope creep, bad scheduling, optimism bias and plain lying to get programmes into the core. The government, in the short term, need to be covering the RDEL costs so that ships, aircraft and assets can be deployed, supported and sustained. Making up shortfalls because SRO’s lied about programme costs to get them approved shouldn’t be hidden behind the latest conflict. We’ve been caught short because we haven’t had the money to maintain and sustain - there is plenty of CDEL to pay for the programmes that stay within their scope, within their schedule and within their budget - it’s when they slip, then you get your “shortfall”. All 15 large MoD projects are regularly amber/red What does that tell you? Giving more petrol to arsonists to throw at the fire egged on by those that sell you the petrol isn’t going to solve the problem. Rant over

Introduction: A Chronological Précis of the UK China Spy Case Views as always my own - facts (such as thy are) can and should be challenged. This is my third attempt at this, the narrative is changing quickly as the government machine attempt to create and not react to “the narrative” 1/25 This thread attempts to offer a factual, chronological summary of the espionage case involving Christopher Cash and Christopher Berry, accused of spying for China, drawing on official documents, parliamentary proceedings, CPS statements, and media reports up to lunchtime (1200 - 13th Oct 25). It aims to provide an unbiased account, allowing readers to form their own opinions, pose questions, or excerpt content for further discussion. The narrative underscores emerging concerns about the functioning of parliamentary democracy, where unelected advisors and organisations like the 48 Group Club—accused of grooming UK elites to align with CCP interests—and similar entities may influence policy and media narratives. Recent mainstream media coverage, including today’s Daily Mail’s article alleging a “shadowy cabal” of advisors effectively running Britain, and The Guardian’s reports on ministerial denials, highlights how such influences could sustain government positions while evading robust scrutiny. Parliamentary oversight remains crucial here, as it ensures transparency and prevents executive overreach, safeguarding democratic principles against opaque networks that might prioritise foreign relations over national security. We elect our decision makers - it’s important to remember that, this isn’t China yet…..

This is how current problems started. "Yeah, Type 45s can just live on a bit longer, and Norway Type 26s mean Govan has a few more years of work. There's time." Then "sensible" decisions pile together, ships get older, yards lose know-how, and you get to where Type 23 is now.

Shipbuilding is at a glacial pace anyway, pushing it back means we might as well give up. This is absolutely ridiculous. The most dangerous era since the heart of the cold war where drones, missiles rule. We are practically defenceless. I expect resignations
