@GodPenuel SIDE NOTE: You can have corruption in a system ran with VISION, VALUES, LAW AND ORDER, and we will still be well off!
But without one of the above, the system crumbles.
English

THREAD:
CONTEXT: A mix of factors gave us the Apartheid Government.
A: Origin - Hardship & Pioneering Spirit: Colonial immigrants persecuted in Europe came to SA (Hardship + Pioneers + Survival). British Imperialst structure of Governance was effective, it also included segregation to serve its own. The Anglo Boer War murdered 26000 women & children died in concentration camps. Afrikaners were fiercely bitter at the British, were also poor, uneducated, it was a problem. Afrikaner Nationalism was born from this.
B: 1920's: Afrikaner Nationalism:
Afrikaners MASSIVELY invested into uplifting the Afrikaner people "Poor white problem".
C: BIRTH OF THE NATIONALIST GOVERNMENT:
1. VISION: The early Afrikaner Nationalist visionary leaders including Henrik Vervoerd had a vision to break away from British opression and to build a country to become a powerhouse.
2. VALUES & CULTURE: Afrikaans were expanded, literature, textbooks, schools. The Huisgenoot magazine were founded to educate poor whites on etiquite, hygiene, child upbringing, and skills.
The Dutch Reformed Church established a culture of values that were core to Afrikaner idenitity and kept the system in check.
3. EDUCATION: Expanded a professional school model, built thousands of highly equipped schools offering vocational skills, invested heavily in teacher colleges.
4. INFRASTRUCTURE & INNOVATION:
- State owned Enterprises: Government offered jobs reserved for poor whites in useful positions.
SPOORNET (1910), Roads and Dams contruction.
The NP government recruited brilliant industrialist Hendrik van der Bijl to establish the IDC (1940) to fund Industry, also founded ESKOM (1922), ISCOR(1925), AMCOR (1937), SAFMARINE(1946) to boost SA's industrial self suficiency. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hendrik_v…
Brilliant Industrialist Hans Merensky expanded Forestry, Agriculture and Geology he was the person behind the discovery of the largest mineral deposits in SA. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Mere…
Government expanded reasearch and innovation to counter sanctions and also for self sufficiency:
SASOL (1950), CSIR (1945), PETROSA(1965), SANPARKS(1926), Developed Nuclear Technology ect.
5. LAW AND ORDER:
Apartheid Government was famous for its effective police force, intelligence services, and world renowned SADF. Death Penalty removed murderers from society.
6. NATIONAL PRIDE:
Generally citizens were proud of what was built up and knew the history. Each milestone were celebrated like tarred roads, electric street lights, new dams, new parks, ect. Clean and well run spaces were cherished as national assets. Municipalities were ran by Mayors who were business people and community leaders who volunteered to lead towns, not political apointees seeking power and permanent employment.
CONCLUSION: The Apartheid Government was born out of several factors: A: persecuted colonial pioneers, that were innovative and hard working by nature, British opression & war led to nationalism. Afrikaners inherited a working system, had big vision, developed identity and values, recruited brilliant industrialists, invested into education, invested heavily in building up infrastructure and the economy. The glue that held everything together was law and order and national pride of having a beautiful country.
Was it a Good Goverment?: Technically Yes - Mainly because it was founded and run with vision, made use of skilled pioneering industrialists, promoted values and idenity, Invested into critical skills needed as foundation of an economy and successful society. Heavily invested into infrastructure and self sufficiency.
Law and Order was strictly maintained.

@Sunflow24522496 @Newzroom405 Soon Taxi patrollers will confiscate bicycles and shoes forcing people to take taxis.
English

@Newzroom405 We gave our workers free transport till TAIXIS started threatening us, they thought we were going to pay them and they would transport our workers, instead we give the transport money to the workers and they bought bicycles. LOL they hate you!!
English

There's growing outrage over several viral videos showing taxi patrollers allegedly harassing motorists who give hitchhikers lifts. Government officials from various provinces have promised to look into the incidents.
Santaco's Fanyana Sibanyoni says car owners are not allowed to give hitchhikers and pedestrians [family or not] a lift.
"It's our business. They are infringing on our rights because as taxi operators we are the only ones who have a permit to pick up passengers," he says.

@geordinhl @CityofCT @DeanMacpherson @DepartmentPWI Well done @geordinhl ! Now for The Kraal (Bo-Kaap) - the city's biggest crime cesspool... and the mess next to cycle track. Keep the momentum!

📢 The Castle eviction is done, and now the big clean-up begins!
For years this has been an unsafe site of urban decay. Now we can begin restoring the area. 🌳
This is a positive outcome for the whole city, and also for those who were living there. I’m grateful to the Minister of Public Works for his attention to this matter after years of no movement 👏
