Une photo de nouveau viral ce mois-ci montre un éléphant nommé Jumbo faisant quelque chose que les responsables du parc disent qu'il est devenu connu pour protéger les suricates du danger. Sur l'image, Jumbo se tient calmement dans les prairies ouvertes tandis que les lions s'attardent à proximité, en regardant. Au lieu de réagir agressivement, il soulève doucement deux suricates hauts avec son coffre, les gardant en sécurité hors de portée. Selon le personnel du parc, ce n'est pas un moment ponctuel. Chaque fois que les prédateurs s'approchent, des groupes entiers de suricates courent directement vers Jumbo - grimpant sur lui ou se rassemblant sous lui pour se protéger. Avec le temps, même les lions semblent avoir appris la routine. « Ils n'essaient même plus », a partagé un officiel. “Ils restent assis et regardent. ” Le personnel dit que Jumbo a répété ce comportement si souvent que les suricates comptent maintenant sur lui comme une tour de guet vivante, utilisant sa hauteur et sa présence comme bouclier quand le danger se rapproche. L'image a une fois de plus déclenché des conversations en ligne sur l'intelligence animale et les liens inter-espèces, beaucoup qualifiant Jumbo de gardien inattendu.

A trans woman was driven out of her charity role after being abused and relentlessly targeted by transphobes. This boils my blood. Don’t listen to the TERFs. It’s not them being silenced or persecuted. It’s always been trans people.
