@martianwyrdlord Bad news for actual Canadians is that the left succeeded in importing enough foreigners fast enough to achieve critical mass. I just don’t think you have the numbers anymore to ever meaningfully vote your way out of this.

This is probably going to happen. The Conservative Party doesn't have any beliefs strong enough to keep it from bleeding members across the floor at an unprecedented rate, and the cynical political opportunists who made it that way have a death grip on the party's internal power structure meaning that it isn't going to change from the inside. The problem is that there's no one on the board to coalesce a new party around. Sure, the CPC's leadership is trash, but it's hard to think of any Conservative MPs who have distinguished themselves, either. The last attempt to do this went nowhere, and no one wants to end up like Bernier. Until that guy steps into the public eye, I don't see a new party happening (unless such a party can produce such a leader almost immediately).
Granite1996@GraniteAB1996

If Pierre Poilievre is not gone as leader by December 31, 2026, we are probably going to have the new party conversation.

@bonchieredstate This is why this Iran nonsense makes me so mad. The enemy is right here ! Why are we wasting resources, political capital and time in the Middle East when the left is right here threatening everything we love ? All our resources should be used here to destroy the left.

@ElectionWiz Hopefully Trump is now reminded of why he was elected. The real enemy that’s threatening our way of life is not thousands of miles away in the Middle East, it’s right here at home. Destroying the left is far more important than Iran.

@WesleyHoratio Yep the founders and all Americans really would have loved for the king to use his powers to help them against parliament. They would have become his most loyal base of support. Reality is the English monarchy just accepted gradually being put in a box after the English civil war

Actually they wanted George III to take up those powers which he possessed. He declined and sided with parliament. So they disowned him and declared independence. When they drafted the Constitution, they imbued the presidency with many of the historic powers of the monarchy
Daniel Hannan@DanielJHannan

Why can Charles III not pardon criminals, sidestep Parliament or rule by decree? Because, by the end of the American Revolution, patriot leaders had convinced themselves that George III was some kind of tyrant. In consequence, they did not simply bestow upon the presidency powers equivalent to those of the British Crown. They gave it the powers that they wrongly supposed the Crown to possess. washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/column…

@rightwingnutrs You’re going about this all wrong, nothing to debate. libs have literally no thought process beyond “this will get me more power to destroy my enemies” . That’s literally it. Literally everything they do stems from this motivation, the ideology and philosophy is window dressing

Old Tory Right - Scholastic Fundamentalist
I’ve never seen Electoral College abolitionists seriously address that our entire electoral system would have to change. To make a legitimate national popular vote scheme, you’d need a national voter roll, federal counting, and a national polling schedule. There cannot be local quirks like New Hampshire’s midnight voting. You cannot simply let one state keep polls open for hours longer than another. New York has polls open for 15 hours. Kentucky? 12. The counting regimes in each state are different. There would have to be one national ballot for the President. We should probably run it on a separate day for other elections. None of this matters right now because each constituency is fairly represented in the electoral college. There’s also the fact we should eliminate first past the post for the Presidency if we did this. National popular vote should mean a run off election. Of the five cases where the popular vote winner lost the election, only one of those winners had a majority of popular votes (Tilden in 1876). We simply don’t know who wins a pure Trump vs Clinton run off with no third choice. Traditionally right leaning third parties won 50.06%+ of the vote. Maybe enough of them join Trump in a run off to beat Clinton? Electoral college opponents don’t even seem to consider these problems.
Seth Keshel@RealSKeshel

An even more compelling case for NOT abolishing the Electoral College is the idea of watching Florida, Texas, and every red state count all their votes by bedtime, and getting to see California, New York, Chicago, Seattle, and Portland, et al, count votes until Christmas. Talk about a time of national unity and togetherness as the crazy can’t be quarantined by electoral vote apportionment.

@RDouglasTravis @karol Lol it’s literally just immigration. The flood gates of the 3rd world were opened by bush sr and Clinton and jr piled on after him. In 1965 immigration quality control was removed by hart Celler but the numbers were still low, in the 90s the numbers were supercharged.

@karol The thing was, in the '90s, most of us knew we had it good. There are three events that foreshadowed the fracturing of today: the Clinton impeachment, the 2000 Florida recount, and the fallout from 9/11.

As I explained to the “BASED Pete Hungary” crowd, it makes no difference what their Hungarian Ken doll “believes.” He’s a 21st-century mainstream politician. His job is to sound and look good. He has no power, and if he had any he’d have to get it from the same place as Orban.

Annak a szervezetnek, amelynek bírósága többek közt a p.d.filok jogaiért aggódott a héten. Nem mellesleg személyesen is vonult a Pride-on. Talán szétnéztek a sajátjaik körében?

@NTGKerwas @AkkadSecretary That’s actually a myth. The chastity belt crap was an invention of the weird ass novels by repressed English society in the 1800s. Chastity belts werent a thing that actually existed and widely used. What kept noble women in line was strict social, religious rules and shame.

This story is revolting but so is the publishing of it. Doctor marries law student, provides so much money they have 3 kids starting at 26 years old and live wherever she wants. Later she gets lonely from him working aboard and demands she fuck 5 guys at anniversary dinner. He begs her not too, she ignores him and claims shes the victim here. Typical whore slop. But the story being in the Telegraph is all part of her publishing a shitty book promoting this to women, the book, for a 400 like Facebook "lifestyle coach" brand. In what world is that worth publishing? But worse when you read the reviews for her book it's clear this entire interview with the paper is a one sided load of bullshit about her being a 'helpless victim of neglect who is trapped to be polyamorous by orientation' When in reality, she seems a self centered narcissist who can't even fathom that her husband has feelings, constantly neglects them, then her kids, then cheats on the men shes cheating with, only to find it 'unfulfilling'. No shit. (btw the youngest is 13 who now has to see this in school)

I get that some people don’t like Musk, but trying to frame him using his own assets/companies to advance his other companies as something scandalous or corrupt is absurd. The entire reason you don’t take companies public is to have this type of flexibility and control.

NEW: Elon Musk took $500 million in loans out at SpaceX, a move that would have been illegal at a public company. It's just one example of the years of financial engineering at the helm of his companies. Latest investigation with @susannecraig nytimes.com/2026/04/24/tec…
