@Fummer432@CodifyBaseball@Buster_ESPN That's my take at least. Not saying I'm right or that I like it this way.
Personally I loved & miss the days where all you needed were the Triple Crown stats on your screen to know if a hitter was good & a pitcher with an ERA of 4.00 over 200 inninngs was a great pitcher.
@Fummer432@CodifyBaseball@Buster_ESPN Cuz BA isnt the focus anymore. Hitters are judged by dif stats now; slash, OPS, wOBA, x-velo, barrel rate. A lot of hitters have stopped focusing on contact to all fields, they hit what they can & pull it for power. Hence the increase in shifts & the subsequent banning of shifts.
@Sooners80@dave_kellogg@CodifyBaseball@Buster_ESPN Exactly, hence the emphasis on other stats like overall slash lines & OPS/OPS+, & the rule changes. It's a pitcher's world rn, just not one of the traditional "workhorse" starter. Those are going the way of the dodo.
@dave_kellogg@EMag_7@CodifyBaseball@Buster_ESPN Guys throwing harder with more pitches as well as fresh/new arms the second half of the game is lowering batting averages. Of course guys would get more hits facing a pitcher for the 3rd or 4th time late in the game like they used too.
@tallGOPgamerguy@CodifyBaseball@Buster_ESPN I'm not really looking at just that window. You're right, biology didn't change & that's part of the problem; bc over this full time frame, the way pitchers throw absolutely has. The stress on the arm for higher velo & more RPMs is more than the arm can take.
@EMag_7@CodifyBaseball@Buster_ESPN The modern arm absolutely could go 7 innings, biology didn't change between 2015 and 2016 onwards to necessitate that big of a drop, it just became more specialized
Without looking it up, off the top of your head how many switch hitters would you guess are in MLB currently?
I asked this the other day and answers were all over the place:
10, 15, 25, 30, 50, 100
Heard it all. What would you guess?
@Brandon_E_S@CodifyBaseball Brilliant way to pay $30 million a year for a guy who A. Gets 10 starts & needs Tommy John. Or B. Doesn't play up to that contract cuz he's taking ticks off his pitches in order to go that deep into games.
I’ve never understood the last 10-15 years especially: you pay pitchers astronomical salaries and then expect them to work less and less each year. If you’re on my team and I’m paying 30 million a year, you’re going to be out there until your arm has lost all feeling and you have nothing left to give. And you’re gonna do it again in five days.
The European mind will never comprehend this:
Jets:
> Draft Sam Darnold replacing Geno Smith
Seahawks:
> Sign Geno Smith to back up Russell Wilson.
>> Geno Smith replaces Russell Wilson
>>> Sam Darnold replaces Geno Smith again.
Jets:
> Sign Geno Smith to replace Sam Darnold
>>> Sign Russell Wilson to back-up Geno Smith?
I want to give a big thank you to Padre fans at Petco Park last night. I’m a Cubs fan and ALWAYS try to catch games here in SoCal when the Cubs are in town. All game long people were coming down to my section to talk and take photos with me which I LOVE! Late in the game as I’m taking photos with followers between innings, a man started yelling very disrespectful things toward me which I ignored. He was intoxicated and I paid it no mind. But he kept going and then made a disgusting sexual gesture toward my fiancée. That made me snap but before I could say a word, Padre fans had my back calling him out for it even booing him. One Padre fan that was sitting by me could see how angry I was and put his hand on my shoulder and said not to let it ruin my night, that he was so impressed by how kind and personable I am with people and he’s not worth it, and he was right. I just want to say THANK YOU San Diego for having my back last night.
BREAKING NEWS: Cleveland Browns outside linebacker Vontae Mack has announced he is retiring.
Mack spent 12 seasons in the league, mostly as a situational pass rusher in his rookie season, but then was relegated to special teams, where he played with his BFF, David GD Putney.
Vontae was controversially selected six spots ahead of Bo Callahan, who went on to lead the Seattle Seahawks to three-straight Super Bowls and won the Walter Payton Man of the Year award in 2018 after all his teammates finally went to his birthday party.
Mack was taken by former Browns GM Sonny Weaver Jr., who unexpectedly stepped down after scandalous news broke out about inappropriate relations with a staff member.
