BREAKING: I’ve just obtained @DCPoliceDept 554-page investigative report detailing a sweeping pattern of misconduct tied to how crime data was handled in Washington, D.C. @7NewsDC • Supervisors repeatedly altered police reports, often downgrading the severity of crimes • These changes were frequently made to make crime trends appear more favorable, especially in key performance areas • In some cases, officers changed a single report; others changed dozens, and some reclassified hundreds of reports • In one instance, a supervisor reclassified more than 130 reports in a single district specifically to create the appearance of reduced crime • Investigators also found cases where one individual reclassified nearly 300 reports, while another changed more than 150 What kinds of crimes were downgraded? • Robberies → reclassified as theft or simple assault • Assaults with weapons → reduced to minor assaults or “injured person” reports • Carjackings → recorded as auto theft or pending cases • Burglaries → changed to unlawful entry or minor incidents • Theft cases → labeled as “lost property” or lower-level offenses • Some shootings → categorized in ways that avoided counting them as violent crime What one officer told investigators: “It was embedded in us, engrained in us, to always seek out the lower offense. It has to be clear and obvious if it was going to be a Part One offense.” Investigators found this was not isolated: • The conduct spanned multiple units, districts, and several years • Some supervisors and command staff directed the behavior There were also accountability issues: • Some officers gave false or misleading statements during the investigation • Policies requiring accurate reporting and review were routinely ignored The impact was serious: • Public crime data was distorted • The integrity of the reporting system was compromised • Victims may not have received proper police service • Public trust in policing was undermined Here are the recommendations given by Internal Affairs to MPD so this doesn't happen again:

This sounds cool. But wait. 400 diapers will last a family with a newborn approximately five weeks. The program will cost the state approx. $12.4 million this year alone. That money will be funneled through a company called Baby2Baby, which will then provide their branded diapers to 400 participating in hospitals (California has over 500 hospitals in total.) Meaning that instead of lowering taxes and letting families keep their own money to buy essentials like diapers, California takes their money, pumps it through a “nonprofit” that has overhead and whose CEO made $240,000 in 2024, to provide a “free” service available only in certain locations, and that you could have bought yourself for much cheaper.
FactPost@factpostnews

Gov. Gavin Newsom has announced California will be the first state in the nation to provide free diapers to newborns. Families will receive 400 diapers when discharged from the hospital.

*THIS IS BRUTAL TO WATCH * Luke Kennard here is penalized for catching an elbow jab strike to the chest and for not simply moving out of SGA’s way. But the best part is watching the ref not even raise his hand for the call until he realizes that SGA’s shot rolls off the rim. BLATANT & INEXPLICABLE!

@ChuckThies An apology? We need to find out what they knew and when they knew. And if crimes were committed, they deserve to be prosecuted.

The DC elected pols who denied that crime stats were manipulated, and police officials who perpetrated it, owe an apology, and more, to the victims of crime who were denied justice.

A D.C. report on progress in a new pilot program to reduce school truancy says that while Latino kids are a relatively small proportion of truant kids, those who have been truant have become more truant over fears of ICE activity. One kid, *a U.S. citizen*, was detained by ICE.

Justice has been served. From the beginning, this was the most obvious violation of Virginia’s Constitution. Abigail Spanberger and Democrats in Richmond knowingly violated our constitution to disenfranchise millions of Virginians. The Constitution prevailed, and Virginians will never forget this unlawful attempt to rob them of their voice in Congress.
Brandon Jarvis@Jaaavis

“This violation irreparably undermines the integrity of the resulting referendum vote and renders it null and void. For this reason, the congressional district maps issued by this Court in 2021 pursuant to Article II, Section 6-A of the Constitution of Virginia remain the governing maps for the upcoming 2026 congressional elections.”

"Teen Takeovers" aren't just news or a problem here in DC. Each city that's dealing with it is experiencing unique circumstances and different challenges, but one thing is common: it's a growing problem. My two cents, and more: nytimes.com/2026/05/07/us/…

They treat black teens terribly in DC. There is literally more space for dogs then there are spaces for kids 13 - 18. Not an arcade, bowling alley, barely a skating rink. Barely affordable sit down dining, all the clothing stores closing. What do they really have out side the rec

$67 million in taxpayer money spent on what can only be described as one of DC’s most catastrophic municipal failures in recent history. City leaders have failed at the most basic functions of their jobs. This is exactly why I’m running for Mayor. We need to bring competence, execution, and financial responsibility back to our city government.
Martin Austermuhle@maustermuhle

Remember the January snowstorm and all that snowcrete? Well, I've learned that D.C. spent $67 million on clearing away the snow and ice, among the highest price tags for any storm in more than a decade. For @51stnews: 51st.news/dc-spent-67-mi…
