@Malachians Well actually Phil, we don't play for another 23 days, so it'll be more than a couple of weeks😂 Yours Sincerely Mr Pedantico

@slbsn Would you be tweeting this if a player from your club had been in Amad's position for the non-award of this penalty last night? If you believe you would, fair enough; but this I think this is more partisan fandom rather than a neutral & considered position.

Writing to the PGMOL about any decision should bring an immediate disrepute charge.

@slbsn He got pulled back from behind and fell/turned in that direction, it was hardly a pirouette. Seemed a pretty natural reaction to me. Sure, he could have stayed on his feet; but so could the Bournemouth player when they got their penalty. Both were penalties.

It’s not that complicated. If you initiate a penalty or exaggerate a reaction, you risk losing the penalty and such decisions are very unlikely to be overturned by VAR.

@sistoney67 Part of the problem is that refs shy away from giving controversial decisions because they have the safety net of VAR & then VAR doesn't want to overrule the ref so the error isn't rectified-the UEFA bar for review is lower & should be adopted in the PL (or just get rid of VAR).

Debate around VAR last night misses the point really. In general fans want less of it, so understandable in debatable calls, it stays out. The inconsistency is referee on-pitch. I guess he would argue Maguire was deliberately attempting to impede and Amad went down under minimal contact. Easy to see why others argue differently. Ref is the guy whose decision counts. Course if players from every club didn’t constantly maximise contact, it would be easier for refs but that is another discussion.

@Miniruks I dislike AI, but I think for VAR to be fair, FIFA should train an AI VAR over 5 years to then be put into the decision-making process to recommend on-field reviews. Emotion plays a part in the decision-making process & VAR bottled it because BOU had scored & media relitigation.

I’m tired of people defending the indefensible. All we want is consistency. Subjectivity isn’t an excuse for different outcomes in identical situations - it’s a flaw, not nuance. If you cared about football improving, you’d call out PGMOL’s mistakes instead of excusing them.
Dale Johnson@DaleJohnsonBBC

On Amad and Evanilson penalty situations. Both might or might not have been penalties. They are subjective, in the grey zone. So on-field decision stands. VAR's role is not, and ever has been, to create consistency of decision making. Each is judged individually. #BOUMUN

@Jon_Mackenzie If you're going to have VAR (I'd rather get rid), then it should be like the TMO in Rugby; let everyone hear the conversation & send refs to the screen more + don't have the expectation that they will overturn their decision 97% of the time upon review.

@jonmikesav8 I thought Ugarte played well in the previous two games, but there was a couple of times when he was in space in midfield when we were on the break tonight & it was obvious that he can't even contemplate a medium/long range pass forward. Very limited in possession.

@__scottsaunders I reckon if the Amad incident had happened after the Maguire red, VAR would have had to step in award the penalty. Both were penalties, an infuriating game for sure; but an improved performance from Utd, which is encouraging.

It’s genuinely wild he’s not given the Amad penalty. Game is entirely different if he (rightly) gives it. No complaints on the Maguire decision but as ever, it’s about consistency. And lack of it.

@ToeInTheWater1 ... he also talked about the potential to use a "terrible weapon that could end the conflict in 2 seconds" in the same meeting. Pearl harbour & dropping a nuke - the Japan special triple platinum trolling package😂

@Ankaman616 I'd never thought of it like that, it's a really good point! I wonder whether the huge increase in coverage has also meant that there's loads more video footage for teams to analyse, which means there's less chance of teams getting caught out by clever moves too.

@__scottsaunders Kobbie & the Brunos sounds like a half decent band name, but would that work as a midfield combination? Bruno G is an excellent player who benefits from playing with 2 other physical midfielders at NUFC; I may be wrong, but I'd have concerns about our midfield being a bit light.

It’s worth taking this seriously IMO. Concerns about the fee - Casemiro all over again is the comparison - but the wages won’t be half as ridiculous. Think he’s a brilliant player. Actually prefer him to Tonali profile wise.

#mufc are in advanced talks to sign Bruno Guimaraes for around €80m, but renewed interest from Real Madrid threatens to complicate the proposed move [@Reuters, @fernandokallas]

@Ankaman616 Agreed. Going by what I saw in the trailer, the voice acting seems pretty flat. Hopefully the gameplay is excellent; the older I get, the less patience I have for mediocre games.

@__scottsaunders Tudor finally realised that he's just an interim manager and decided to keep things simple, rather than trying to imprint a system/long term philosophy. They'll stay up.

@BenDesigned While I agree that signing a 29 year old on huge wages & transfer fee was not a great strategy; Casemiro has done enough to be considered a good signing, even with those negative fee/wages elements taken into account. He'll be very difficult to replace, so he's a good signing.

@Finbauer I didn’t get it at the time, and I have to stand by what I think. I think he’s had some exceptional games & also times he’s lost his head. The age profile was wrong & the money spent was far too much. Quality player on his day. But was the wrong move for United long term.

He was signed when 30 for big money & surplus to requirements from Real Madrid. For his price & considering there were periods where he was poor, people are looking with rose tinted glasses now He’s been great this season, but wouldn’t say he’s been a brilliant signing .
Pilib De Brún (Phil Brown)@Malachians

Will never understand how he’s used as an example of bad business. He’s been a brilliant signing, never let Utd down off the pitch and never behaved like he was above Utd at their lowest moment unlike some youngsters who have achieved nothing in the game

@BladeoftheS It's all well & good having policies that sound nice; but if any political party aspires to hold real power, the truth is they can't go any further than the centre left & expect to win. We are a conservative country & a policy like this is more likely to work against them.

The Green Party have proposed a policy where the highest paid person in a company could only earn 10x as much as the lowest, currently the ratio is over 1000x in some companies. Do you agree?
