@ExInspectorBDS Started as we all do on the shift now known as response and finished it back there. Cops now will deal with more incidents and calls in 5-6 years than previous generation did in their full 30. However at start of service far more opportunity for pro-activity than now.

Perhaps some ex cops who are up their own arses need to read this. Because, regretfully, there's some truth in it. And they wouldn't last 5 minutes in the rigours of the job today. When you agree with the Rebecca Tidy's of this world, you seriously need to have a rethink.

The ultimate fact is that policing is being rationed. The distribution of that ration goes to whoever wins the electoral forecasting game in any given budget. That's it. That's the core problem. Everyone thinks they're being unfairly treated because, variously, we all are.

@heraldscotland Like it or not this is a critical piece of infrastructure. The road network runs through & around the city. What are people and businesses located to West, South and East expected to do if they have to get themselves or goods across the area? Public transport isn't always viable

And you harp on at probationers about standards and you have them in a muster room with leaking windows. I once worked in an station where all harling had fallen off front of building - cement had failed after 20 years. Never got fixed in the 3 years after it happened.

One of my reflections on the Golders Green arrest is that I suspect there would have been less controversy if the suspect had been confronted and shot dead by armed officers, if he had similarly refused to put down his knife and continued to advance towards officers.

@wallaceme Yes happens all the time, probably worse in London and other cities in England but have experienced it up here too. Few years ago on leave in London assisted off duty with detaining female shoplifter,had scissors, brandished them at security &cut 1 cop. Usual shouts from crowd

@west_response I've kicked someone, I've tried to drive my baton (even did it with a wooden one)through skulls to disarm people. Do whatever you need to do to keep the public and yourself safe. Feds will pay for lawyers but can't pay for someone to resurrect you

@apoliticaleye @metpoliceuk I'm retired and in current job I have to swipe in and out. I'm also no longer required to carry a switched on works mobile phone with GPS or an Airwave device with GPS/ARL. I'm also no longer expected to attend immediate response calls on blues and twos. But sure fire safety

So it is reported that a @metpoliceuk Borough Commander has directed that all officers entering his stations must swipe in one at a time and not walk through an already opened door as a group. By the nature of their work and movements this is not a factory "clocking in" environment. A Senior cop drinking the Rowley kool aid that will frankly just piss off cops already looking toward, not the method of entry but the route to an exit. Form a queue
