To fully grasp the desperate financial situation facing many South African refugees hoping to reach America, it’s important to understand this harsh reality: Most of them have nothing left. Many who still had jobs were forced to quit or were immediately dismissed the moment they applied for refugee status. They are struggling to reach their appointments for interviews, medicals, etc. The vast majority arrive with no income, or at best a single breadwinner’s meager salary. These are families who have endured years of racial discrimination, persecution, and violence; families who already struggle daily just to put food on the table. They are leaving behind everything with empty pockets, facing the terrifying prospect of starting over in a foreign country with almost no resources. If anyone can reach out to the State Department or relevant authorities to help find practical solutions for these families, whether through emergency assistance, or streamlined processing, we would be eternally grateful. ⬇️

@ccbugggg Sometimes my mouth is bigger than I am. Instead I told him my husband is the Opr Mgr and Captain for the ferry that goes from our island to the mainland. I was going to have him 86ed off the boat for life when I found out his name. Only other way off the island is to fly.

I’m so freaking angry right now. I almost punched a 6 foot guy. The sweetest little dog was outside the store waiting for its owner and when the door opened the dog stood up. The guy was leaving same time I was he kicked at her. I told him “you’re a jerk“. It escalated. 1/2

Dutch Shepherd Duco served with handler Rick Hogg, supporting Operation Enduring Freedom from 2012-2017.
After losing his Belgian Malinois, Marco, in 2012, Hogg was given the unit's spare or "float" dog, Duco. Hogg's first thought after losing Marco was that he didn't want this other dog. Before long, handler and dog were completely bonded. Duco's ability to switch gears from laid back, chilling out in the kennel, to "game on," made him uniquely effective.
Just six months after they were paired up, during a nighttime raid in Afghanistan, Duco and Hogg fell approximately 30 feet from a helicopter. Hogg was knocked unconscious, but Duco seemed to survive unscathed.
As a dual-purpose K-9, Duco was trained to detect and to bite.
He had a knack for finding bad guys where human eyes failed.
He knew how to detect explosives long before the men he worked with could. This dog quickly became the one everyone hoped to have working with them. He was revered as a force-multiplying K-9 security blanket.
Years after the helicopter incident, Rick assessed that Duco may be suffering from some long-term injuries he sustained in the fall. He made the decision to retire Duco, allowing him to live out his days in the comfort of his own home.
In November of 2020, Duco was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, an aggressive form of bone cancer, in his rear right leg. Veterinarians felt they might be able to prolong and improve his quality of life by amputating the leg and administering chemotherapy. Hogg and his wife made the difficult decision to proceed with amputation and chemo, hoping for the best.
Sadly, seven months after his surgery, Duco's cancer returned, and this legendary, heroic and brave dog succumbed to the disease on July 5, 2021.

She's so sweet and calm and she's been so good, took the 4 hour drive like a champ and slept in her crate all night and hasn't even had an accident yet. And she has this little white spot on her back and it's so cute I can't even stand it

Last night something happened that made my heart swell so big it almost hurt… in the very best way. ❤️
Back in the fall, sweet black Lab puppy Mars, a service dog prospect, spent a few precious weeks with us for some exposure training. He was only 5 months old — playful, curious, and a little unsure of the big city world. Whenever something new worried him, he’d quietly tuck himself just behind my wheelchair, peeking out from his safe spot while I gave him all the time he needed to feel brave.
Last night, I brought baby Rottweiler Kenji (our big Moose) to his very first group class without Chesnyy. After class, the dogs got some joyful off-leash play time… and one of the staff brought Mars in to join.
He entered the room a bit nervous — so many more dogs than he normally sees in the training room, so much energy. But the moment his eyes found me… he came straight to me. ❤️ Not bouncing wildly, but gently placing his front paws on my lap, covering my face in soft, trusting kisses. Then he stayed right there, pressed close, choosing me as his safe place in a room full of uncertainty.
He could have gone to his breeder. He could have stayed with the staff who see him every day. But out of everyone in that room… he picked me. The girl in the wheelchair he’d only known for those few short weeks last fall.
Even once he relaxed and started playing, he kept coming back to check in with me, like I was his anchor.
I don’t know if there’s any deeper compliment a dog can give than saying with their whole heart, “You make me feel safe.”
And as if that wasn’t enough to melt me completely… Kenji was an absolute superstar on his very first night in this class. The youngest dog there by far, he tackled targeting (even into a tricky plastic tote!), stayed mostly focused through all the distractions, redirected like a pro, stayed perfectly polite and quiet, and had a wonderful time playing with the group. A few folks even mistook our growing Moose for Chesnyy!
It was great. My heart is still overflowing. Two special boys reminding me why we pour our hearts into this work — the quiet trust that lingers, the beautiful growth, and the pure love dogs give so freely. 🥹❤️

Last night, Yale honored a degenerate who thinks we deserved to watch fellow citizens jump from the Twin Towers. He supports Hamas. He's on record stating that "it doesn't f*cking matter if rapes happened on October 7th." He openly calls for the destruction of the West and Israel.
Our Dept of Education is on track to hand this campus another $800 million in federal funding, possibly $1 BILLION after all is said and done.

Many of you know that the man that owns the land I have my rescue kennels and house on had a stroke. Sadly, Tom has passed away. The damage he suffered was too much. He wasn't only my landlord; he was a close friend that will be greatly missed. The older you get the more you lose it seems.
Today I will be meeting with his son to learn the outcome here. We have had a few meetings and talked on phone several times. I have done all I can along with others to show him the value of what we do, and all the pups saved. Even the local Animal Control officer met with him promoting us.
Tom bought this land in 1979. For peanuts. With the sprawl coming north from Raleigh, through Wake Forest and into the northern counties of NC the land value has skyrocketed. I know the last 10 years Tom was constantly being offered to buy him out. They are putting up subdivisions left and right. Undoubtedly the son has done his homework and knows this too.
So today I will learn our fate here. I have done a lot of legwork in the meantime and have places at other rescues for all the pups here. That won't be an issue. We have had several rescues backs here over the years and they now will have ours. We have also been exploring options in the area to continue local rescue but haven't found a reasonable option yet.
Whatever happens I will continue rescue. If not here locally, somewhere else. The son is an odd guy and tough to read. Hoping he sees doing good as valuable as the land he just inherited. Either way we will finally know something today. Thanks for all the support. Any prayers would be appreciated.

One month ago, hundreds of protesters in Karachi, Pakistan, stormed and breached the outer perimeter of the U.S. Consulate in Karachi, Pakistan in an effort to murder the American consulate workers inside following President Trump’s airstrike on Iran that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei.
Just in case you wanted to know the mentality of the average person from Karachi, Pakistan…
Now we know for sure Fishback is financed by Pakistani foreign born individuals!
