@USN_Submariner I caught this U-2R (80-1094) departing Canadian Forces Base (now 12 Wing) Shearwater, Nova Scotia the day after the base air show a few decades ago. It was the first time I saw one flying. Beautiful aircraft. 🙂❤🇨🇦🇺🇸 @usairforce @YAWMuseum

@DrHelenFry War Sailor (Krigsseillern) 2022 or The Arctic Convoy. Both about Merchant Marine service World War 2. Easy to forget them, but those were the folks who kept things going.

The Notre-Dame-de-Lorette Necropolis and the Ring of Remembrance form one of the most striking memorial landscapes I’ve ever visited. A vast resting place for over 42,000 of France's fallen (among others), it's a powerful reminder of the scale of loss during the Great War.

During the Holocaust, Ruth was deported by the Nazis to Auschwitz. She jumped from the train car and avoided the gas chambers. She then joined the partisans and fought the Nazis. This is Ruth with her granddaughter Opal, who is an officer in the IDF. Ruth won.

@BowersWrites Thinking of the memorial at Beaumont Havel when it was first commemorated June 7, 1925. Who was there: Field Marshall Haig and perhaps some vets, Mums and Dads…

At Beaumont-Hamel on the first day of the Battle of the Somme - July 1, 1916 - The Newfoundland Regiment paid a terrible price. Of 801 soldiers who went "over the top," only 68 answered roll call by day's end. At the site of that slaughter, an iconic bronze statue stands watch.

@DrHelenFry There are many "bests," but I choose "Savage Continent" by Keith Lowe. Often times we think of the great battles and the great leaders, but what happens when the shooting stops? This book addresses that question.

This one graph explains why more than 2 million Canadians rely on food banks every month: no wealth, no food. Simple as that.
