CORU can’t come quick enough for Psychology Seems to be an exponential increase in psychology quacktitioners (phrase borrowed) practicing clinically without any training qualifications A BA / BSc does not make you a practitioner, its the start of your career not the end

Vance is one of the most powerful people on earth, yet he’s single-handedly humanizing children in public. Incredible.

@HiHo_20 @GarNob I hoping she'll at least engage with us as opposed to completely ignoring us. @NormaFoleyTD1 did what she wanted to do and had no interest in those who badly needed it

It would be great to read an analysis on what all outgoing ministers achieved in their portfolio - and how much of the last Programme for government was implemented. Instead all we read are breathless accounts of who is up, down, in or out. It’s a government not an episode of celebrity apprentice.

@AccidentalAdvo1 @GarNob Exactly, putting the decision on schools to test to grant the exemption is just a cover up for lack or neps and appropriate funding for support needs. Underfund neps , put it on teachers instead then publicly blame schools for not being able to do neps job. Usual spin

@GarNob The article I read specifically referred to private reports...but what do families do when public psychology is defective? Many teams without one. NEPS are moving to "advisory" and not diagnostic but even IF they agreed to do an assessment they are impossibly understaffed

Schools have been told that they cannot award exemptions for the study of Irish on the basis of psychologists’ reports commissioned by parents which recommend that their children should not have to study the language. irishtimes.com/ireland/educat…

@GarNob The Irish exemption circular and the circular guidance for teachers states in black and white it can only be issued based on school based testing not external reports

#Reflection On Christmas Eve, I along with my son and daughter in law and my four grandchildren attended Mass in Ratoath, and, honestly, the Church was packed like sardines, not just every seat filled but both side aisles and the centre aisle were also jam-packed. #Amazing

Thank you to everyone who advocated for extra time in exams for young people with dyslexia during Dyslexia Awareness Month. Many TDs, Senators and Councillors have pledged their support for the urgent introduction of extra time. Find out who. ⬇️ dyslexia.ie/pledges-of-sup…

@WBrowne2014 @simonmlewis Yes you're dead right, it'd be crazy to think rhe department of education would make any long term investment in the education system, that would be far too forward thinking

@simonmlewis They are one off expenses. You said therapists, who would need to be paid every year, so it's misleading to say the same money could be spent on that instead. Or did you mean hire them for a year, and then stop doing it?

Instead of spending €9 million on phone pouches, it could be spent on any of the following: - 273 SNAs - 180 teachers - 167 speech and language therapists - 160 occupational therapists - 112 educational psychologists - 26 Dáil bike shed

@WBrowne2014 @simonmlewis Kids just bring a second phone in and have rhat locked away or buy a magnet if amazon to unlock the pouch themselves , they are far from stupid and to won't appreciate being patronised by bejng made lock their phones away in a plastic pouch .

@HiHo_20 @simonmlewis Some schools already do this. That's where the idea came from. They seem to manage. If a school doesn't think it can then it doesn't have to use them and nothing is spent.

@simonmlewis If kids are genuinely glued to phone and not engaging, they're hardly going to agree to use a pouch . Sort out the reason for non engagement. This approach will just push more kids into not attending.

@MaryLouMcDonald Do they think schools will have time/ resources to watch Every child put their phone into a pouch every morning? What about those dyslexic kids who neeed to type and use technology in class but can't because the department won't fund laptops for rhem , maybe phones are useful too

Sinn Féin will bring a Motion to the Dáil on Tuesday to put a stop to Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael's indefensible waste of €9 million for phone pouches. Students, parents, teachers and schools are crying out for real investment in mental health services, special education and schools struggling to keep the lights and heat on. I ask you to contact your TDs, tell them that you won't tolerate this waste of taxpayers. They must reverse this decision and invest this badly needed funding in mental health services and schools. #budget2025 #mentalhealth #education

€9 million for mobile phone pouches? 🤯 Another shocking waste of taxpayers money by Fine Gael/Fianna Fáil - when children with mental health issues are stuck on waiting lists, and schools can’t afford heating or to keep the lights on. This waste must be stopped and the money redirected to where it’s truly needed. It's time for change! #budget2025
