Just over the border in Chad, the conflict in Sudan is felt far beyond the front lines. In camps across eastern Chad, hundreds of thousands of refugees are trying to rebuild their lives in an environment marked by extreme heat, water scarcity, and rising food prices. The Chad Red Cross and the @IFRC have mobilised to support the people in these communities. Together, they conduct regular needs assessments, have established a "humanitarian service point" at a camp for refugees and are providing critical support such as new wells and 'water points' where people can access clean, safe water. In a field dominated by men, Olcay Hakan didn't get scared - she learned and got to work. After the 2023 earthquakes in Türkiye, she rebuilt her business with support from @RedCrescent, @BritishRedCross & @IFRC. Her dream is to run the region's best car repair shop. And she's proving that no dream is too big, no barrier too high - for any woman willing to fight for it. Olcay, we believe in you. 💪

The fight against racism is everyone’s fight. We all have a part to play in building a world beyond racism. Today, we reaffirm our firm and unequivocal condemnation of racism in all its forms. At the @IFRC, our principle of neutrality does not mean staying silent in the face of racist violence, discrimination and exclusion. Together with our principles of humanity and impartiality, it means working to actively dismantle systemic barriers so everyone receives the safe, dignified, and equitable support that they need. It means being committed to the individual, structural, and cultural change needed to eradicate discrimination and build safe, inclusive spaces for everyone. It means proudly taking on our collective responsibility to stand up, and speak up, for the right of all people to live a life free form all forms of racial discrimination. It is our duty to translate words into a meaningful reality. #FightRacism

ELIMINATE RACISM: On the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, we are reminded that racism is not a relic of the past — it is a daily reality for millions. It shapes who is safe, who is heard, who gets access to opportunity, and who is left behind. Racism and discrimination have no place in our societies — nor in our organisations. Every person deserves dignity, safety, and equal opportunity. As a global humanitarian network, we see the human cost of discrimination in every crisis: people denied assistance because of who they are; communities stigmatized in moments when they most need solidarity; migrants and minorities facing barriers to safety and dignity. Racism weakens our social fabric, fuels violence, and undermines trust. Today, and every day, we recommit to building a world where every person is treated with respect and fairness — regardless of race, ethnicity, origin, or status. A world where dignity is not negotiable. A world where compassion is not conditional. Let us confront discrimination wherever it appears — in our institutions, our systems, and within ourselves. Let us choose courage over comfort, justice over indifference, and humanity over hate. Our IFRC network stands united: racism has no place in our societies, and no place in our humanitarian work. #FightRacism

The escalation of hostilities in the Middle East is affecting civilians on all sides. In Israel, Magen David Adom @Mdais teams are on the ground providing life-saving assistance. Magen David Adom has raised its alert level to maximum, mobilizing 39,000 staff and volunteers in total, deploying over 2,000 ambulances and rapid response vehicles. MDA teams are also conducting secondary transfers of bedridden and ventilated patients from non-sheltered facilities to protected locations, while leading a national blood donation campaign in secure sites.

In Lebanon, the ongoing escalation, combined with evacuation orders and continuous strikes, is contributing to a rapidly evolving humanitarian situation, with increasing needs for emergency shelter, health services, and relief assistance. There is also a massive displacement crisis in the country, with a million people now registered as displaced, according to official figures. Staff and volunteers from the Lebanese Red Cross are working under extreme pressure while ensuring both their personal safety and the safe evacuation of injured individuals. To help sustain and scale up the humanitarian response of the @RedCrossLebanon in the months ahead, the @IFRC is providing critical financial support through allocations of funds from @IFRC_DREF and the extension of its emergency appeal. Here is a glimpse of the Lebanese Red Cross life-saving work. 👇

"I don't know where my husband and my other children are and if they are safe. There are many people that did not make it." Esmiralda Esmiralda fled the violence in Khartoum with her two small daughters (2 and 4). For weeks they walked towards South Sudan, full of fear and hunger. They've now been in a transit camp for 9 months, fighting to survive each day. Esmiralda gathers firewood and then sells it for twenty or forty cents, hoping it will be enough to feed her children. Most days, the money is not enough, but she thanks god that their souls are still safe. The @SSRCS, with support from the @IFRC, is providing care, restoring family links, and standing with people who have lost almost everything. But the needs are growing.

“The conflict in Sudan is not only a crisis inside Sudan. It is a crisis spreading across the region,” said @daniellebrouw, IFRC communications coordinator, who was addressing reporters in Geneva from Juba, South Sudan. “Funding is drying up while needs continue to rise. It slowly turns into a nightmare,” she added. v.aa.com.tr/3868433

We are deeply concerned by reports of an @Iranian_RCS ambulance hit while responding to an emergency. The Red Crescent emblem represents neutrality and life-saving assistance. Respect for this emblem is essential so emergency teams can safely reach people in need. Any attack on health workers, ambulances, or medical facilities is unacceptable. We reiterate our call for respect for our emblems and the humanitarian services they represent.

Millions of people in Cameroon are facing a worsening food crisis that is receiving little international attention. A new assessment conducted by the Cameroon Red Cross with support from the @IFRC network, surveyed nearly 6,000 households and found that hunger is rapidly increasing. The IFRC has launched an Emergency Appeal for CHF 9.6 million to support the Cameroon Red Cross in scaling up assistance for the most vulnerable communities. This article explores how why urgent action in 2026 is critical to prevent further structural collapse of food supply system. 👉ifrc.org/article/mother…

A very sad news from El Salvador. Sandra Nohemi Benitez, volunteer President of the La Unión branch of the Salvadorean Red Cross Society lost her life in a tragic vehicle accident on 15 March while on duty. Two members of the Salvadorean Red Cross were also injured. In addition, two spouses of volunteers from the La Union branch of @CruzRojaSal were also killed in the accident. On behalf of the @IFRC, I send my deepest condolences to their families and loved ones as well as all our colleagues in the Salvadorean Red Cross Society and I wish a full recovery to the injured.

Nearly 4.5 million people have fled Sudan, arriving in countries already under strain. In place like Renk, South Sudan, families are surviving with almost nothing - walking miles for water, eating once a day, and sheltering in makeshift tents as the rainy season approaches. Across Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia, Uganda, and South Sudan, needs are rising fast, but funding is falling. The @IFRC and Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers are working every day to provide water, shelter and support, but they can't do it alone. Without urgent global action, this risks becoming an event greater humanitarian catastrophe. 🎙️@daniellebrouw

Investing in community health is not just a moral choice; it is a strategic one. Ignoring this integrated view of health and security carries significant risks, as underinvested primary healthcare leaves countries exposed to future pandemics and prolonged crises. Strong local health systems, trusted volunteers, and sustained engagement are among the most effective tools we have to prevent crises before they escalate. In a new @WorldHealthSmt Perspectives commentary, @IFRC Secretary General, @jagan_chapagain, shares his view on how health security and international security can no longer be treated as separate worlds. worldhealthsummit.org/whs-perspectiv…

In Cameroon, the food crisis is deepening. "As of today, nearly 3.3 million people, almost 10% of the population, are food insecure." - @AdeshTripathee, IFRC Head of Country Cluster Delegation in Yaounde The consequences go beyond hunger, impacting health, livelihoods, and the future of entire communities. The @IFRC, alongside the @CroixRougeCam, is scaling up emergency food, health, and cash assistance. But it’s not enough. 🚨 Urgent action is needed now to save lives today and build resilient, sustainable food systems for tomorrow.

Humanitarian workers, including our staff and volunteers, are a lifeline in crisis. Without them, reaching people most in need becomes impossible. Their protection must be ensured so they can carry out their work safely and return home to their families. #ProtectHumanity
