Just over the border in Chad, the conflict in Sudan is felt far beyond the front lines. In camps across eastern Chad, hundreds of thousands of refugees are trying to rebuild their lives in an environment marked by extreme heat, water scarcity, and rising food prices. The Chad Red Cross and the @IFRC have mobilised to support the people in these communities. Together, they conduct regular needs assessments, have established a "humanitarian service point" at a camp for refugees and are providing critical support such as new wells and 'water points' where people can access clean, safe water. The escalation of hostilities in the Middle East is affecting civilians on all sides. In Israel, Magen David Adom @Mdais teams are on the ground providing life-saving assistance. Magen David Adom has raised its alert level to maximum, mobilizing 39,000 staff and volunteers in total, deploying over 2,000 ambulances and rapid response vehicles. MDA teams are also conducting secondary transfers of bedridden and ventilated patients from non-sheltered facilities to protected locations, while leading a national blood donation campaign in secure sites.

In Lebanon, the ongoing escalation, combined with evacuation orders and continuous strikes, is contributing to a rapidly evolving humanitarian situation, with increasing needs for emergency shelter, health services, and relief assistance. There is also a massive displacement crisis in the country, with a million people now registered as displaced, according to official figures. Staff and volunteers from the Lebanese Red Cross are working under extreme pressure while ensuring both their personal safety and the safe evacuation of injured individuals. To help sustain and scale up the humanitarian response of the @RedCrossLebanon in the months ahead, the @IFRC is providing critical financial support through allocations of funds from @IFRC_DREF and the extension of its emergency appeal. "I don't know where my husband and my other children are and if they are safe. There are many people that did not make it." Esmiralda Esmiralda fled the violence in Khartoum with her two small daughters (2 and 4). For weeks they walked towards South Sudan, full of fear and hunger. They've now been in a transit camp for 9 months, fighting to survive each day. Esmiralda gathers firewood and then sells it for twenty or forty cents, hoping it will be enough to feed her children. Most days, the money is not enough, but she thanks god that their souls are still safe. The @SSRCS, with support from the @IFRC, is providing care, restoring family links, and standing with people who have lost almost everything. But the needs are growing.

“The conflict in Sudan is not only a crisis inside Sudan. It is a crisis spreading across the region,” said @daniellebrouw, IFRC communications coordinator, who was addressing reporters in Geneva from Juba, South Sudan. “Funding is drying up while needs continue to rise. Respect for this emblem is essential so emergency teams can safely reach people in need. Any attack on health workers, ambulances, or medical facilities is unacceptable. Millions of people in Cameroon are facing a worsening food crisis that is receiving little international attention. A new assessment conducted by the Cameroon Red Cross with support from the @IFRC network, surveyed nearly 6,000 households and found that hunger is rapidly increasing. The IFRC has launched an Emergency Appeal for CHF 9.6 million to support the Cameroon Red Cross in scaling up assistance for the most vulnerable communities. A very sad news from El Salvador. Sandra Nohemi Benitez, volunteer President of the La Unión branch of the Salvadorean Red Cross Society lost her life in a tragic vehicle accident on 15 March while on duty. Two members of the Salvadorean Red Cross were also injured. In addition, two spouses of volunteers from the La Union branch of @CruzRojaSal were also killed in the accident. On behalf of the @IFRC, I send my deepest condolences to their families and loved ones as well as all our colleagues in the Salvadorean Red Cross Society and I wish a full recovery to the injured.

Nearly 4.5 million people have fled Sudan, arriving in countries already under strain. In place like Renk, South Sudan, families are surviving with almost nothing - walking miles for water, eating once a day, and sheltering in makeshift tents as the rainy season approaches. Across Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia, Uganda, and South Sudan, needs are rising fast, but funding is falling. The @IFRC and Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers are working every day to provide water, shelter and support, but they can't do it alone.
