"I don't know where my husband and my other children are and if they are safe. There are many people that did not make it." Esmiralda Esmiralda fled the violence in Khartoum with her two small daughters (2 and 4). For weeks they walked towards South Sudan, full of fear and hunger. They've now been in a transit camp for 9 months, fighting to survive each day. Esmiralda gathers firewood and then sells it for twenty or forty cents, hoping it will be enough to feed her children. Most days, the money is not enough, but she thanks god that their souls are still safe. The @SSRCS, with support from the @IFRC, is providing care, restoring family links, and standing with people who have lost almost everything. But the needs are growing.

Nearly 4.5 million people have fled Sudan, arriving in countries already under strain. In place like Renk, South Sudan, families are surviving with almost nothing - walking miles for water, eating once a day, and sheltering in makeshift tents as the rainy season approaches. Across Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia, Uganda, and South Sudan, needs are rising fast, but funding is falling. The @IFRC and Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers are working every day to provide water, shelter and support, but they can't do it alone. Without urgent global action, this risks becoming an event greater humanitarian catastrophe. 🎙️@daniellebrouw

Last week @IFRC visited Renk, at the border between Sudan and South Sudan. Nearly 80% of the 1.3 million refugees and returnees fleeing the conflict in Sudan have crossed into South Sudan through this border town. Every day, families arrive with only a few belongings, searching for safety. With the support of the IFRC, the @SSRCS is there to help, restoring family links, providing psychosocial support, and assisting people in the first critical days after arrival. 🎙️@daniellebrouw

In 2025, together with the @SSRC, we facilitated 37,866 successful phone calls, enabling families separated by conflict, armed violence, and detention to restore and maintain contact. #SSoT.

Hundreds of people in Renk, South Sudan, have received cataract surgeries, helping improve vision and quality of life. 20 volunteers from the @SSRCS supported patients every step of the way—helping those with limited mobility reach the operating room, administering eye drops, distributing medicine and providing protective glasses. Vision loss is common among older people in Renk, often linked to vitamin deficiencies. Thanks to the dedication of the volunteers, patients were able to access care safely and with dignity.

Some people have to choose between buying sanitary pads or food for their family. To address this urgent need and to celebrate International Women's Day, the South Sudan Red Cross @SSRCS distributed 175 dignity kits to women and girls. Each kit contains sanitary pads, underwear, soap, a towel, and a flashlight with batteries. Together, we shape a safer future for the next generation.

Even in death, #Humanity MUST be upheld. Last week, we trained @SSRCS volunteers and community leaders in Yei, #SouthSudan on dignified management of the dead in line with cultural and legal standards. #SSoT.

Together with @SSRCS, we have introduced internet services at Gorom Refugee Camp, #SouthSudan, enabling families to call and video chat with loved ones via social media and other digital platforms to complement already existing Red Cross phone call and family tracing services.

Three suspected Marburg virus disease (MVD) deaths were reported in Kapoeta East County, South Sudan (23 Dec 2025), linked to travel from affected areas in Ethiopia and possible community spread. With cross-border movement heightening risk, the South Sudan Red Cross (@SSRCS) (backed by an @IFRC_DREF operation) worked with the Ministry of Health and partners to strengthen preparedness: community-based early warning, prevention, and integrated health actions to build trust and protect dignity and inclusion. @IFRCAfrica #DREFinAction

Festive season solidarity with flood-affected families in #Pibor. While others celebrate, communities hit by June - Nov floods still face urgent needs. Our Branch in Pibor, with @RodeKruis support is assisting 1,630 households with essential items, restoring dignity and hope.

The Türkiye Ambassador to South Sudan visited @SSRCS today to learn about our operations & volunteer network nationwide. Productive discussions with SSRC President & SG @LoborJohn explored future collaboration with the @RedCrescent to strengthen humanitarian work in South Sudan.
