@awaisaftab "No model applied in clinic will do that for you." You sure about that? Gaining collective awareness about certain societal issues is often the first step to meaningful political change. Current model actively suppresses this. "The problem is inside you, not outside you."

@ercwl But idk, if I'd see a RH-like dude latch on to my favourite coin like a parasite, then I'd call it out.

@ercwl Are you saying that Strategy is a ponzi, but if we can just invent new ponzis fast enough, then it will survive? Am I getting it right? If so, that's just the most cynical and absurd thing I've ever heard.

@awaisaftab I don't disagree. But 'love for the suffering' people you describe, need to be very, very, very humble, or they are even worse! Too often you get some treatment when getting no treatment would be better.

Be wary of the critics of medicine who are powered more by their hatred of diagnosis and treatment than their love for the suffering people and the desire to ensure that every person gets access to the help they need.

@GeorgeKirov1 To play devil's advocate, I don't think these positive experiences change the minds of critics in any way. For example, bloodletting was insanely popular for 2000 years. Imagine the millions of positive stories you could gather out of that.

@awaisaftab I always suspected Elon Musk to be such a person. He said very publicly, that he has autism.

Self-interpersonal psychopathology finds cover and refuge in whatever diagnosis it can, whatever diagnosis will allow the person to avoid confronting the nature of their pain and the self-repeating patterns of their lives, whatever will make for a more appealing & dignified story
Edward A. Perin - Psychologist@DoctorPerin

A lot of people are mistakingly diagnosing personality pathology as Autism and anyone who has spent time in autism communities see them come in and wreck absolute havoc 😵

@joannamoncrieff Would love if you wrote a more in-depth reply to Awais on your blog. Btw, your reply is almost 3 years too late. He wrote that article in 2023. Sometimes it looks like you have no rebuttal. Personally, I'm unsure who's right here. Need to read more from you.

7/ Psychiatry lives in paradoxes: 👉Unscientific - yet accused of overmedicalising life. -‘Built on lies’ - yet the only discipline that deals with uncomfortable truth re suffering and uncertainty - ‘Dangerous’- yet the field society turns to to do better to prevent suicide. -’Irrelevant’ - yet expected to solve society’s deepest crises of loneliness, addiction, and despair. - ‘Just about drugs’- yet criticised for being ‘only talk.’ -‘Too biomedical’ yet dismissed as pseudoscience -Accused of coercion, yet also blamed when someone dies because no intervention came. - Stigmatised yet demanded to lead the fight against stigma. - Accused of creating dependency - yet blamed when patients are abandoned…. -medications as ineffective placebos medications - yet capable of destroying lives through withdrawal… I could go on.…

🧵Psychiatry as a Scapegoat-And the Mirror We’d Rather Not Face 🚨1/11 ‘Psychiatry isn’t real medicine.’ ‘Psychiatry medicalises normal life.’ ‘Psychiatry is pseudoscience.’ ‘Psychiatry is dangerous.’ ‘Psychiatry is built on lies’
Psychiatry is the perfect object of projection. Let’s explore 👇

@sanilrege @psycheureka Sanil, your introductory post got me thinking. Why do you think psychiatry is seen so differently than other disciplines in this way? And others? Physical healthcare medication can cause brutal side effects but there’s no anti-transplant group. Why psychiatry?

@sanilrege @psycheureka I'm guessing there's definitely room for improvement on his end (I'm not that familiar with it). But I got the impression that they always say that tapering is a tough process and that many don't even succeed. Heck, even Mark is still on ADs, he said that. No one is married 1/2

Paradox 101 - “You need long trials.” “But I don’t.” 🚨 Criticising RCTs for being 8 weeks long while being 100% confident in a tapering protocol that has ZERO trials is the very definition of paradox. RCTs: dozens of trials, thousands of patients, systematic reviews.
Tapering protocol: graphs, extrapolated to up to ~ 20–40 months, with no prospective data - biased by a subscription based business model. ( since the comment brings up commercial interests) If short-term evidence makes you uneasy, how does no evidence at all inspire absolute certainty? Naivety or self interest?
