A great read about the quiet revolution happening among Black families. Urban public school systems are guilty of a moral failure to educate Black and brown children. Taking matters in their own hands, homeschooling is a good bet. Learn the reasons why. #BlackFAMILY

"Perceived unintelligence manifests in well-intentioned woke ideology. Black parents are faced w/ schools that are lowering standards for their children. Efforts to lower standards to achieve equity are based, broadly speaking, in CRT." —@conniemmorgan ⬇️ freeblackthought.substack.com/p/the-quiet-ri…

Good Friday in Phoenix. I went first to an Episcopal Church in Scottsdale. Big church. 30 people, mostly over 60. Then I went to a Catholic Church, packed, many many young families. #goodfriday

@MattBeaudreau Bit of unsolicited advice. Know the kids first before designing curriculum or kids will be doing curriculum and not learning. Curriculum doesn’t teach. Real people do.

First time I’ve ever been asked to develop a full year of customized home education curriculum for a family. Interesting challenge with an amazing crew. Full year for the kids with monthly parent check ins built around their family goals, business, and schedule. I dig it.

Week after week @chamath delivers a cogent analysis and actionable prognostication for listeners. Better than reading the Wall Street Journal every day. @theallinpod is the best.
The All-In Podcast@theallinpod

Chamath: AI Will Kill Brands, Only Abundance Wins The brands that bring abundance will win big. @chamath: “ If I had to bet, I'm going to bet that brands go to zero.” @Jason: “Really?” Chamath: “When you can make things that are as good or better, and you can make them in a cheaper, faster, better way, people want that abundance more than they want an affiliation to a brand. The perfect example is actually what Tesla did to BMW. This is a fundamentally cheaper, faster, better product. Yes, it's got a great brand, but nobody's going to pay a premium for these products. The reason why Y has outsold everything else is because the Model Y is priced better and it's superior on every operational dimension of comparison. Maybe the right word is abundance. The brands that bring abundance, that bring more to the table than their competitors, and they're able to bring more at the same unit cost or less, capture share. That's probably true.”

Evangelical churches are talking about pornography. Look there to what’s working.
Richard V. Reeves@RichardvReeves

If pornography isn't something many people are willing to talk about openly, we are missing a huge part of the conversation about what’s impacting our young men and boys. I'm grateful that @oso and the team at @aibm_org are undertaking this crucial responsibility by beginning rigorous research on pornography and its effects on young men.

We have reframed “parent partnership” as thinking of the parents as the first and primary educator of a student. We are co-partners, in the trenches, of raising and educating their sons. Especially with boys, imagine the hard work here.
Matt Beaudreau@MattBeaudreau

Great conversation last night with the parents of students from multiple campuses. Keeping them informed. Keeping them focused on the mission. Keeping them inspired. Serving them so that they lead well at home. To us, that matters just as much as serving the students.

I’ve been in the Microschool sector for several years. My instinct: Many schools fail because they are under capitalized and fail to deliver if promises made to families. I want to see great small schools flourish with innovative approaches to education.
Matt Beaudreau@MattBeaudreau

@Lyncaeus No insult at all. Just wondering if you misunderstood my post. Yessir- I’ve founded more than one. Definitely can be true in the micro-school sector. My point is that it doesn’t have to be true, nor does quality have to suffer in the least. Hope that helps.

No need to insult me. Are you a founder of a school. Like every business, the early years may operate at a loss. That was true in the charter sector and likely true in the Microschool sector.
Matt Beaudreau@MattBeaudreau

@Lyncaeus Logical fallacy, is it not? Never said that those were synonyms, but the quality is undeniable. Maybe you just haven’t seen it done? Weird thing to assume.

@MattBeaudreau Let’s do the math. The second decision a founder has to make: tuition that aligns with the educational model. Hint: the traditional school model with a teacher and 25 students in one room with one grade level is the cheapest.

@Lyncaeus Totally agree with the many moving parts! That said; not only do we have some owners who have broken even with this number- they’ve been quite profitable. Awesome to see!

Profitability and quality are not synonymous.
