Bill C-9 just passed the House of Commons. This bill expands the government’s power to criminalize speech and removes key safeguards that once protected Canadians. It also sidelines the Attorney General in decisions about what counts as “hate speech,” giving the state broader authority to police what people say and believe. Freedom of speech and freedom of religion are not optional rights. They are core protections in a free society. Once the government gains the power to decide which opinions are acceptable, those freedoms start to erode. If you care about civil liberties in Canada, now is the time to speak up. Students for Liberty is organizing students and young Canadians to push back against laws that threaten free expression and religious freedom.

We support provinces having real control over their affairs, including the right to determine their own future within or beyond Confederation. If the CPC won’t stand up to Ottawa or respect Alberta’s right to self-determination, there are alternatives that have been consistent on this issue for decades.
