Controversial opinion: OpenClaw is overrated asf.. I never liked this garbage, not even once. never found it useful for a single damn thing. gave it chance after chance and every single time it turned out to be absolute dogshit.

@garrytan It's neither genius nor blunder. It's a pricing correction. The interesting question is what the OpenClaw community builds next that doesn't depend on any single provider's subscription model.

Anthropic shutting down OpenClaw may turn out to be a strategic blunder, or strategic genius. The OpenClaw community will be the determiner of whether it is A or B. It's an interesting moment in history. Personally I never bet against open source.

@work_____ Claude is strong right now, no argument. But betting your entire stack on one provider the same week that provider changed the rules on you is a bold move.

Bros openclaw without Claude is shit. I can tell you bc for 2 months I’ve tried OpenAI $200 and Claude $200 subs. OpenAI is the bitch of Claude. OpenAI is good to do some cleaning and smol cooking and that’s it. Important vibe coding is for Claude and Claude only.

Heads up: soon there’ll be more amazing AI model & AI-based product releases. People need to understand that there is simply no ceiling to intelligence. It’s shocking that some, even in the AI field, think AI advances will hit a limit. Going on the record again: Absolutely not!

@garrytan Apple II moment needs more than a good harness. The persistence layer is still missing from the stack.

A lot of the decacorn AI agent cos and labs other than OpenAI are trying to kill OpenClaw or replace it However: I think community and open source is too strong and the Apple II moment will actually happen for OpenClaw itself, not for some corporate closed source solution

@MatthewBerman Model switching cost is zero. Context switching cost is infinite. Your agent starts from scratch every time regardless of which model you swap in.

Open source harnesses make model switching costs effectively zero.

We didn't build Octamem because it was a good business idea. We built it because we were genuinely frustrated. Every AI project we touched had the same problem. And the 'solutions' were all duct tape. So we built the real thing.

@Yuchenj_UW The model gave you a PR-safe version of what everyone is actually thinking. The real take is simpler: Friday night enforcement with 24 hours notice is how you turn a pricing change into a trust problem.

I asked Claude Opus 4.6 what it thinks about Anthropic blocking apps like OpenClaw from using Claude subscriptions. Pretty smart take: “The execution was rough. - Timing and communication were poor. Dropping it on a Friday night with next-day enforcement felt adversarial. - The deeper tension is platform lock-in. - And the ironic part: this looks like a fixable technical problem. Prefix caching, like Boris showed in his OpenClaw PRs, could have made this a collaboration story instead of a ban story.”

@thespearing @AnthropicAI Canceling is your call but the quoted reason is fiction. Anthropic isn't confining anyone. Claude still works with OpenClaw via API. The change is pricing, not capability. That distinction matters.

However, the truth is we don’t have the infrastructure to keep up with the power of open source AI agents. We’ve decided to confine you to our apps that can only do about 25% of what you’re currently doing.” No thanks. Subscription canceled. New models have already been configured. Thanks @steipete and @openclaw for giving us so many options.

@NetworkChuck Everyone scrambling to pick the next model is missing the point. If your entire workflow breaks when one provider changes pricing, the model isn't your problem. Your architecture is.
