“Where Digital Innovation Meets Human Sensitivity — Uttar Pradesh Police!” Two pioneering initiatives of Uttar Pradesh Police — UP Police Fact Check and Meta Suicidal Alert — have been honoured with the prestigious The Economic Times GovTech Awards 2026 🏅 Launched in 2017, @UPPViralCheck is the country’s first police-run fact-check platform, dedicated to swiftly countering rumours and misinformation spreading on social media and delivering accurate information to the public. To date, 236 fact-checks and rebuttals have been issued from this handle, while police units across 75 districts have collectively released approximately 4,100 rebuttals — and 318 FIRs have been registered against those found spreading false information. #UPPolice is the world’s first police agency to deploy the Meta Suicidal Alert initiative — using social media as a tool to actively save lives. Through this technology-driven yet deeply compassionate system, 2,181 lives (1,667 men and 514 women) have been successfully protected so far.
