Why do "our democracy" people knowingly march alongside Communists and use them to advance their agenda? Because they don't care about ideology. Their real priority is a very specific kind of "freedom"... not the freedom that comes from limited government, but positive rights negotiated by institutions (i.e., themselves). The stability of those institutions is what guarantees this freedom, in their view. I can do a thread on this later if you're interested in how they define "freedom" in their own words... it's genuinely fascinating. But the short answer: Communism isn't a threat to them. It's just one ideology among many to be managed and negotiated. The institutions are what they mean by "democracy." As long as those survive, anything goes. That makes populism and small government conservatives the only true threatening ideologies.

Let me point out one thing though in the original post: “Radical Islamist” is an oxymoron…Islam in and of itself is radical and the problem - there is now distinction between the two. Adding the term “radical” to it simply attempts to downplay and evade the true nature of Islamic beliefs and practices.
