That the Tories allowed defence spending to atrophy, esp during the Cameron/Osborne years, is irrefutable. But this graph is designed to distort/amplify cuts and increases. It is propaganda. The Tory record is bad enough without distortion. The real story now is Labour’s failure to even start repairing the damage the Tories did.

Alright let's run with that. There are 525,600 minutes in a year and the 'Holocaust' occurred over c. 3 years (early 1942 to early 1945) which gives you 1,576,800 minutes. That means that the Germans were allegedly murdering a jew every c. 15 seconds. Sound plausible? No.
Arsen Ostrovsky@Ostrov_A

Just pause to think for a moment ... 6 million Jews were murdered in the Holocaust. If a minute’s silence was observed for each victim, the silence would last more than 11 years!

Honestly, when I saw this picture of Trump I didn't think of Jesus at all. He looks more like an apostle is healing sick people. I'm a very strong born-again Christian. I wasn't even remotely offended. 99% of the people who were offended by this hated Trump anyway.

🚨 JUST NOW: President Trump RESPONDS to backlash over the now-deleted post Q: Did you post that picture of yourself depicted as Jesus Christ? TRUMP: "How did they come up with that? It's supposed to be me as a doctor making people better, and I do make people better and make people a lot better." "I did post it and I thought it was me as a doctor and had to do with Red Cross as a Red Cross worker there, which we support. And only the fake news could come up with that one."

Well Rory has killed 14-18 all weekend. This is over. Congrats. Play the course 23 times in a month leading up to the tournament obviously you’re gonna win. Sad day for the game of Golf.

Maybe getting the opportunity to play Augusta National unlimited times the month leading into The Masters, while skipping three straight tournaments, gave Rory McIlroy an unfair advantage over the other competitors… Just maybe. Congrats, or whatever.

In the 2025–26 financial year, the UK Treasury received £331 billion in Income Tax. In the same period, the Government spent £333 billion on welfare. This situation is clearly unsustainable and requires urgent change. For the first time ever, we’re now spending more on welfare than we raise from those who are actually working. We need to change course: cut the burden on hard-working taxpayers, reward their effort, and create real incentives for more people to get into work and contribute. The current path isn’t fair — and it can’t last. What do you think needs to happen? 👇

Reform UK will end Labour’s spiteful VAT raid on our churches. It is about time Keir Starmer put our national religion first and stopped this kind of cultural vandalism. Reform UK has been clear. This unfair tax on places of worship must go.

So tedious to read this stuff. I have been unsparing for years in my criticism of the Tory record on defence. Including in today’s article. But that doesn’t get Labour off the hook. You can’t put things right unless you allocate the budgets. Starmer-Reeves are not doing that. Yes, procurement of complex military machines takes time. But it won’t happen at all without more defence spending.
Dominic@pcl100

@afneil You do know we have a Tory government defence. It takes 10 years to approve design build and commission a complex warship. As with most public services the Tories spent 14 years hollowing out almost every public service. Impossible to replace in 22 months 🤔

If the Chagos surrender really is dead, that's fantastic. But Starmer shouldn't have needed to be told that paying billions of pounds to hand over our territory was a bad idea. These constant u-turns are embarrassing for our country. The British people deserve better.
Steven Swinford@Steven_Swinford

EXCLUSIVE Sir Keir Starmer has been forced to drop legislation which would cede sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius in a further deterioration of relations with Donald Trump The Times has been told that a bill underpinning the controversial deal will not be included in the King's Speech next month after the US president branded it an "act of great stupidity" and withdrew his support The government stands by the deal and will attempt to persuade Trump to change his mind but has acknowledged that it cannot proceed without his backing Ministers are "deeply frustrated" with Trump, who initially supported the deal after extensive discussions between intelligence agencies but changed his mind during a dispute with Nato over plans to seize Greenland The government believes that it puts the future of Diego Garcia, the UK-US base in the islands which has been used during the Iran war, at risk It is concerned that Mauritius will mount a legal challenge granting it access to the waters around Diego Garcia, making it harder for the base to host nuclear submarines and patrol surrounding waters The deal was highly contentious. It would have seen Britain hand over the islands to Mauritius before immediately entering into a 99-year lease for Diego Garcia. The government claimed it would cost £3.5billion, although the Tories disputed this and said it would cost £35billion his over its lifetime. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

If Keir Starmer’s Chagos surrender now finds its rightful place - on the ash heap of history - it will be because Conservatives led the fight against it from day one. That it took so long is another damning indictment of a prime minister, who fought to hand over British sovereign territory and pay £35 billion to use a crucial military base which was already ours. Unlike Labour, we will always put our country first. We are the only party who can be trusted to stand up for Britain’s interests abroad.
