This January boosted by continued freezing of income tax thresholds, dragging more people into tax or higher tax brackets. Borrowing in the financial year so far — April 2025 to January 2026 — £112.1 billion; this was £14.6 billion or 11.5% less than in the same 10-month period a year ago. But still the fifth-highest April to January borrowing on record (not adjusted for inflation).
