โIf you doubt how you can be justified, then set before your soul Jesus, who wiped away all your sins, who died not for His own sin, but for the sin of the world. And since He died, not having sin, He justly rose again. For how could He be held in Hades who had no sin?
Therefore He both died and rose again for this purpose: that He might both free us from sins and make us righteous. Therefore, just as Abraham believed that his body, already deadened, would become fruitful, so also do you believe that Jesus died and rose again, and it will be imputed to you as righteousness, as also to your forefather Abraham.โ
โBl. St. Theophylact, Comm. on Rom. 4:25

@PrimusPeccator @sincead33 Well your where you should be then. No better source than that. His sermons would be the next place Iโd go. You can access most all of them here for free (open the tab on the left to scroll through the volumes).

@TD_Barrett @sincead33 What would you recommend I read to gain a better grasp of Augustine's spirituality? I'm re-reading his Confessions right now.
English

@sincead33 Solution: everyone shift from his theology and focus on his spirituality. Thatโs where he really shines.

#OTD June 16, 1539:
During an ordination exam in Wittenberg, Martin Luther was confronted with the claim: โFaith justifies; faith is a work; therefore works justify.โ
He responded:
โFaith justifies not as a work, nor as a quality, nor as knowledge, but as assent of the will and firm confidence in the mercy of God. For if faith were only knowledge, then the devil would certainly be savedโฆ Accordingly faith must be understood otherwise than as knowledge. In part, however, it is assent.โ

@PastorBowman Where can I get my hands on Gerhard's Loci without having to sell my soul?
English

@CathRoser No worries. I was pretty pretty sure he's talking about Man outside of grace. "By nature, Man cannot love God above all things." I'm not 100% sure, though. Apologies if I came across as rude.
English

@PrimusPeccator It is in the quote
Heโs saying that โto love God above all thingsโ is fictitious by nature

@based_white_boy @nolibertarians They almost renamed DPs to Bishops?!?!
We were so close to greatness.
English

@nolibertarians Renaming DPs to bishops and the overtures to reconsider womenโs suffrage were the main ones on my radar
