The main reason we go to church is for God to serve us.
+We go hungry ; he feeds us his Word.
+We go dirtied by sin; he cleanses us by the blood of Christ.
+We go thirsting for hope; he gives it to us in the gospel.
+We go shrinking from shame; our Father tells us once more that we are his beloved children.
Yes, we respond to God with prayer and praise. But the primary reason we go to church is for God to do what God does best: gift us, feed us, serve us in Christ.

@KalebAtlanta We needed a God put to death, that we might live.

Lutherans trust in works...
The works of Christ, that is.
Baldwin@Baldwin1418419
Lutherans and Catholics are both unsaved. Catholics backload the gospel, Lutherans frontload the gospel. Both trust in their works. Galatians 3 makes it pretty clear that it's either 100% works or 100% grace that saves. If you're trusting in your works even 1%, then you're not trusting in Jesus's sacrifice. -And faith without works is dead doesn't mean that it's no longer saving faith, it simply means it's not useful. You can still be saved without evangelism, it just means that your faith is only useful to yourself.

"God, in an apophatic way, is separated from all beings with regard to essence. For he is neither spoken of, nor thought of, nor partaken of in any way, by anyone. But since, according to his providential emanation, he is partaken of by many, by them he is also filled. For each thing that has come to be according to its own logos, which exists in God, is said to be a member of God and to have a place in God." - St. Maximus the Confessor (Questions and Doubts, 173)

@PrimusPeccator And against the sacrifice of the Mass. It's maybe the clearest document in the early Church that precludes that conclusion, because its communion rite is so crazy.

The Didache is literally Baptists' favorite early church writing. They use it all the time to reject paedobaptism and push for congregational polity.

The Didache is the Protestant’s worst nightmare.
