Our government takes almost twice as much tax from us as Germans pay, despite our economy being a trillion dollars smaller - because Britain’s tax as a % of GDP is now the highest in the developed world.
(And this chart was from before Labour put taxes up much higher.)

@K_Niemietz The US provides free healthcare to it's poor, elderly and veterans, the Euros seem to miss the fact that they'd mostly qualify for Medicaid, our free system for people making less that 200% (138% in some states) of the federal poverty level.

The US is a much richer country than the UK, because they have better economic policies in several key areas. I'd rather have those here.
But they also have a variety of social dysfunctions, which I rather wouldn't have here.
Two things can be true.

Trump, MAGA, Farage, Reform and GB News hate the UK and want us to believe the UK is a failing state compared to the USA. The facts disagree. On practically every measure of quality of life, health, safety, education, environment, the UK would rank as the best state in America. The land of the "free " (where people get yanked off the street by masked men) is also the land of half a million medical bankruptcies a year and the world’s largest prison population. This is the reality.

What on earth has happened to this country? We can’t defend ourselves, our manufacturing has been destroyed, towns and cities across the country are in decay, we have the most expensive energy in Europe if not the world, great swathes of our country are unrecognisable due to immigration and we spending billions just to service our debt. Can someone explain this to me how the fuck can we run out of this stuff when we literally produce this food ourselves. We have livestock & arable farms all over the UK, this is pathetic if this actually happens. All the shops need to do is buy directly from our own farmers.

As an American that lived in the UK for 5+ years, I'm not surprised.
