After winning the election, Suvendu Adhikari stated in his first speech that people from all religions in Kolkata voted for him except the Muslim community. I genuinely do not understand how he could be so certain about that. Does the Election Commission of India have any system that identifies which religious community voted for a particular candidate? If not, then on what basis was such a statement made? Comments like these are deeply alarming because they openly divide citizens along religious lines and risk creating further communal tension. Political leaders should work to unite people, not single out an entire community after an election. I believe such rhetoric is dangerous for the social harmony and democratic fabric of India. I sincerely urge India’s civil society, intellectuals, and the government to take serious notice of statements that may encourage hatred, polarization, or communal unrest. #savemuslim #saveminority @HasnatAb_dullah @NahidIslam_24 @UNHumanRights @UN @realDonaldTrump @PMOIndia @CNN @BBC @hrw

I do know Parliament very well Shri @KirenRijiju and therefore find your lecture on “parliamentary practices” most diverting coming from a government that has been known to allot as little as 15 DAYS to sessions of Parliament. Your government’s “commitment” to Parliament could be the subject of a book in the ‘Best Selling Fiction’ section. That not a single sitting @BJP4India MP, chose to be present at Central Hall for Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary speaks volumes to the people of Bengal and India. For BJP, Bengal’s icons are too often reduced to election-time symbolism. For us, Gurudev is not a prop of political appropriation but the eternal soul of Bengal. Joy Bangla.
Kiren Rijiju@KirenRijiju

You may be a new MP but you are not ignorant at all about the Parliamentary practices. When Parliament is not in session, any MP who is present in Delhi may pay floral tributes to the iconic personalities on their anniversaries at Samvidhan Sadan, otherwise MPs can pay tributes at any convenient location. Parliament officials and some BJP Ex-MPs were present today at Samvidhan Sadan. Politics 24×7 is toxic. We didn't do politics by questioning the absence of Congress & TMC Members.

⚠️ Serious alert for Muslims and dissenters on this platform: The situation has reached a point where even RTs and quote tweets on politically sensitive posts can attract police action. Authorities can ask X to hand over your personal details, account information, IP logs, and activity records. Many people still think "it was just a retweet" will protect them. It won’t. Be extremely careful about what you engage with, amplify, or quote tweet online. You are on your own, no one is coming for you.

We have fought an extremely difficult election where nearly 30 lakh genuine voters were allegedly disenfranchised from the electoral rolls. Throughout this entire process, we witnessed what we believe was deeply partisan conduct by several government agencies as well as the Election Commission of India. Democratic institutions that are meant to function impartially appeared compromised, raising serious concerns about the fairness, credibility and transparency of the electoral process in West Bengal. From the counting process to allegations surrounding the handling and movement of EVMs, Mismatch of Control Units, several disturbing incidents have left millions of people questioning whether the true mandate of the people has been respected. I have already demanded the release of CCTV FOOTAGE FROM THE COUNTING CENTRES and a transparent counting of VVPAT slips so that the truth can come before the people and every doubt can be addressed openly and honestly. Democracy can only survive when electoral institutions inspire trust and confidence among citizens. Unfortunately, what we have witnessed has deeply shaken that trust. At the same time, reports of post-poll violence, attacks on party offices, intimidation of our party workers and threats against supporters are deeply alarming and unacceptable in a democratic society. Many dedicated Trinamool workers and supporters who fought tirelessly on the ground have allegedly faced targeted attacks and have been forced to flee their homes out of fear and insecurity. No political worker in a democracy should ever have to choose between their safety and their political beliefs. Keeping the democratic traditions of this great nation above everything else, my colleagues and I in the Trinamool Congress will continue to stand firmly with the people of West Bengal and with every Trinamool worker who fought tooth and nail against what we believe was a compromised electoral machinery. We will continue to be a strong, vocal and uncompromising opposition both in Delhi and WB. Under the guidance and leadership of Mamata Banerjee, our fight for democracy, constitutional values and the rights and dignity of the people will continue without fear and without compromise. I urge every Trinamool supporter and worker to stay strong and united during this difficult time. If anyone has been subjected to post-poll violence, intimidation, or threats, I request them to reach out and share their details with me or DM me. I will do everything within my capacity to ensure their safety and security and pursue every available legal and democratic remedy. I will stand shoulder to shoulder with every Trinamool worker and supporter in this fight to ensure that truth prevails and that both governments now work genuinely in the interests of the people of West Bengal. Jai Bangla! Jai Hind! 🇮🇳

I had written an open letter to President Trump, @realDonaldTrump as he has always spoken about democracy and fair elections, and wanted to bring the truth to his attention. As a responsible Indian, and Member of Parliament, it is my duty to shed light on the fact that this election was carried out in an absolute lopsided manner. To begin with, the Opposition Parties that represent more than half of India’s vote share officially in 2024, have raised doubts over the fairness and neutrality of the Chief Election Commissioner and his motives. The Election Commission, under the CEC’s guidance has barred 9 million voters from voting overnight, without a fair appeal or any further justice. More so, even while Manipur burnt with violence, this election saw the deployment of central forces in millions, including tanks and encounter specialists, as a mark of force. It is my duty, to ensure that everyone is aware, the world over (be it a president of an important democracy or a citizen of any country) that the elections haven’t been as free and fair as shown by sections of media to the world. The disenfranchised voters, and those who faced fear while casting their vote raise questions even today. EVMs have been doubted for 2 decades and rigging issues have been raised by India’s leader of opposition. I strongly believe that leaders of democracies around the world cannot be kept away from the fact that the institutions that once ensured our elections to be free and fair, are now being questioned.

Dear President @realDonaldTrump Greetings. As a Member of Parliament from India, I write in response to reports of your congratulations to PM Narendra Modi on the West Bengal Assembly election results. These are state-level elections—an internal matter of India’s federal democracy. Any external endorsement appears premature and misplaced. More importantly, serious concerns have emerged. Numerous complaints allege an atmosphere of fear, intimidation, and systemic pressure. There are widespread perceptions that the Election Commission did not act impartially and that its functioning appeared to favor the BJP, raising questions about institutional neutrality. Equally troubling are allegations regarding the extensive deployment of central forces, which many believe created coercion rather than confidence. Senior leaders, including Mamata Banerjee, have publicly raised concerns about the fairness of the process. These reflect a broader unease that cannot be ignored. Democracy is not just about elections—it is about ensuring they are free, fair, and credible. When serious allegations arise, they warrant scrutiny, not celebration. Were these concerns considered before your statement? Given your emphasis on democratic values, I urge a more informed and balanced view. Thank your very much
