I’ve tried to stay out of this little controversy, but I will say this:
Every criticism I’ve seen of this particular story appears to be based on projection. People are filling in the gaps in this short story with personal biases.
Let’s respect this couple and the choices they’ve made. Let’s give them the grace we hope for. Let’s applaud them for striving to live their covenants in the best way they know how in their unique circumstances. Let us love them as Christ does.

I think I understand why the older some people get the more conservative or more likely they are to advocate for state power. They see the moral decay of the world that seemingly nothing can be done to stop it so they grasp for any means possible. I feel that pull.

@LDS_Dems @Rlrofthedohnuts From your article, which is a better outcome? Being 23% more likely to attend college or more likely to volunteer, be more forgiving, more likely to go to church, lower rates: drug use, depression and suicide? I will gladly take the latter for my kids.

Given how much of a presence homeschoolers have on social media especially among Latter-day Saints, I think it is worth saying:
For active, involved parents, public-schooling your kids is almost always the right choice.
Most homeschools simply can't compete.

@LDS_Dems A lot of data shows that homeschooling is superior in a broad range of metrics but even if you look at the more critical sources of analysis you find that at worst no clear winners are shown. So again to say “most homeschools simply can’t compete” is ridiculous.

@LDS_Dems Homeschooling may not be for everyone, it thinks it’s best for most, but to make a statements like yours is ridiculous. Studies show homeschooled students scoring 15 to 30 percentile points higher than public school students on standardized tests like the SAT and ACT.
