Held a consultative meeting with the UN Resident Coordinator, Dr. @SWJacksonUN, to deepen cooperation between Kenya and the United Nations in advancing our shared priorities. Our discussions reviewed ongoing collaboration in strengthening internal security, peacebuilding and institutional capacity. We took note of the recently signed three-year Memorandum of Understanding with @UNITAR on strategic leadership training for the National Police Service, Kenya Prisons Service and Kenya Coast Guard Service, as well as continued partnership with @UNODC under the PLEAD Programme to advance police reforms, e-learning, anti-corruption measures, gender-responsive policies and enhanced investigative capacity.

Alternative fibres such as banana, pineapple, bamboo, and jute offer a significant opportunity to diversify Kenya’s textile industry beyond conventional cotton and synthetic fibres. Alternative fibres enable sustainable production, open doors to premium, eco-conscious global markets, and align with the Government’s focus on the textile sector as a priority value chain under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda. This morning, at the Workshop on Natural Fibres in Kenya, held at Baraza Media Lab in Nairobi, the partnership between the United Nations Agencies FAO, UNIDO, IOM, and ITC, and the County Government of Nyamira on the circularity joint program stood out as a strong proof of concept. It demonstrated how alternative fibres can be scaled up to strengthen cottage industries nationwide and increase farmers' incomes Through the Kenya Jobs Economic Transformation Project (KJET), we are empowering such enterprises in the textile industry to grow and scale their impact. In addition, the County Aggregated Industrial Parks being developed nationwide will offer shared, common-user spaces to support enterprises operating in the textile sector. As a State Department, we look forward to deepening partnerships with the SDG Multi-Partner Trust Fund Kenya under the United Nations in Kenya, led by the UN Resident Coordinator Office and County Governments, to unlock aggregation, value addition, and trade opportunities across the alternative fibres value chain.
