Senate Minority Leader @Paul_Lundeen's closing remarks on HB24-1448, the school finance reform bill, elevated the importance and moral imperative of funding student needs over systems. The bill is currently awaiting the Governor's signature.
Read Sen. Lundeen’s remarks below:
"[House Bill 1448] is responsible to the state budget, it is sensitive to district needs, it is elegant in establishing a new mathematical formula that at the end of the day, most importantly, honors students.
It’s a transformation from a formula that was about systems into a formula that is about students. It is our responsibility, it is our moral imperative that we meet every student who shows up on the doorstep of our public schools asking for, needing a free public education that we acknowledge the circumstances from which that student arrives, and the opportunity that the student may move forward in their life to.
Nothing is as important in a child’s life, beyond love, family and friends, than the education they get. And it is critically important that this formula will offer the promise of actually making the way we fund public education about those precious souls that are the future of our state and the future of our country for the first time."
