@HedgeDirty But it's that what happens? A productive skyscraper next to a parking lot... The skyscraper is why people are there, but the building, equip, workers income is taxed. The parking lot owner next door captures the same rising land value w/o employing or contributing socially.

I believe property taxes are the least bad/distortionary way to fund necessary govt functions But my hottest anti-Georgian take is that if the fundamental reason your land is valuable is bc people want you as a neighbor, then you 100% morally deserve to capture that value

@idobitcoin2 @EpsilonTheory I finally realized that, even though my doubt came easy, I never stopped talking to myself ABOUT God. Now I still talk to myself about God just as frequently, but with zero concern for convincing myself of the nature of his presence. Just glad He's there.

@idobitcoin2 Choice and faith are the wrong frame for me. When I was young, I had no difficulty rationalizing God out of my worldview, but He was still there in my mind. I think @EpsilonTheory is correct: details aside, narratives ARE real and they impose forces on us that changes us.

I have noticed that a lot of Bitcoiners are some form of Christians. Even if they do not follow Christianity, a lot of them believe in god. I believe in family, values, and morals but I am not religious or believe in god. Am I an outlier? Do you guys believe in god?

BTW, if you're interested in the pre-history of Bitcoin, and the people who were working on P2P digital money since like the 1970s, I can't recommend this book enough.

Paying a toll in the Strait of Hormuz isn’t the same as buying coffee with cRyPtO. When transactions are of critical importance and need to be resilient and the receiver needs confidence that they’ll have durable final settlement there is not better option than bitcoin. Using a stablecoin or some other chain would be a critical mistake because final settlement is not as certain as it is with bitcoin. The only thing one needs to look at to confirm this is bitcoin’s network hashrate compared to the affinity scams in its wake.

iran accepting bitcoin as payment is bad for bitcoin because they will discover bitcoin fucking sucks for payments

It's almost certainly true that part of the reason the NY Times twitter account doesn't get much engagement is because they're not really even trying. But also:

@brockm Been w u on a lot of ur posts but I don't see this. I see ppl feeling confirmed on their "Hayekian neutral money/post-petrodollar" theses, and while their theses diverge on details (and plenty are narcissistic e/acc types 🤮), simping today's petrodollar is already fascist.

Seeing some former friends literally giddy with excitement that Iran will be using Bitcoin for paying tolls for the Straight of Hormuz as some kind of validation of the goodness of Bitcoin is very special. It confirms my worries about their fascist sympathies.

@Bonecondor Cool, but be careful. Ellul's secular black-pilling books were often released w/ a theological companion book that gets overlooked. Reading one w/o the other misunderstands Ellul and can make u crazy. TZ never read Ellul's Meaning of the City

Common Grackle - Grackles have iridescent feathers that are striking in direct sun. Grackles will point their beaks upward "bill tilting" or "sky-pointing", to establish dominance, intimidate rival males, and attract mates during breeding season #birdcpp @BirdCentralPark

>be social studies student >professor assigns Das Kapital >Marx explains how capitalism exploits workers >makes total sense >capitalism = bad, socialism = good >graduate with $87,000 in student debt >can't find job that pays living wage >blame greedy corporations >apply for government job >get hired at Department of Education >spend 8 hours daily in bureaucratic meetings >produce nothing of value >complain about private sector efficiency on X >vote for politicians promising free healthcare >support rent control to fight housing crisis >wonder why no new apartments get built The same students who read Marx's theory of exploitation never question why government jobs exist or why their "public service" requires extracting wealth from productive workers. They rail against capitalist surplus value while collecting paychecks funded by taxation—the ultimate extraction..
