We are on the edge of a catastrophic surge in global hunger: @WFP projects an additional 45M people could be pushed into hunger if the Middle East crisis rages on. Rising food and fuel prices WILL cause starvation and destabilization—hitting the most vulnerable the hardest.

🔴 Middle East crisis. With global shipping routes disrupted, humanitarian supply chains must adapt fast. @WFP shipping team is working nonstop to keep food moving despite port closures, blocked routes and rising costs. Every delayed ship means families go without food.

🔴In just 48 hours, displacement in #Lebanon has more than tripled, with nearly 80,000 people now in shelters across the country.   Today, under the leadership of the Government, @WFP reached more than 25,000 people — nearly a third of those displaced in shelters — with emergency food assistance.

The humanitarian fallout of this crisis is being felt across the Middle East and beyond. @WFP is already responding in affected countries, providing emergency food & cash assistance to newly displaced families—and we are ready to further scale up life-saving assistance as needed.

The crisis in the Middle East could have a devastating impact on global food security. Fuel and transport costs are soaring. Fertilizer prices are next. If this situation doesn't improve right now, food prices—and hunger—will rise, with the most vulnerable affected the most.

Since conflict began in Sudan, more than 1.3 million people have crossed into #SouthSudan WFP is on the ground, providing fortified biscuits, nutrition assistance, and cash to help families buy the food they need.
